  • Patent number: 7878167
Abstract: An engine with intake and exhaust valves that may be controlled with a circular cam lobe is provided. The rotating axis of the circular cam lobe is offset from the physical center of the cam lobe. This permits the cam lobe to impart a reciprocal opening and closing of the valve. To maintain the valve in the closed position, the interconnection between the cam lobe and the valve 12 may have a spring which is compressed to allow the valve to remain closed for a set duration of time while the cam lobe continues to rotate.

  • Patent number: 7210435
Abstract: A desmodromic valve and cam system is provided which is adapted to be installed into an internal combustion pushrod engine. The system includes a camshaft assembly having a plurality of removably attached cam lobes installed onto a main camshaft; a valve connector assembly installed onto a distal tip of each valve; a rocker having a valve movement end mechanically linked to a respective valve connector and a pushrod connecting end mechanically linked to an upper distal end of a pushrod; a hydraulic lifter follower assembly assigned to each valve which includes a pin disposed on a distal end thereof which is adapted to engage and track a follower groove formed on each respective cam lobe; and a pushrod assigned for each valve, each pushrod having lower distal end mechanically linked to a respective hydraulic follower lifter.

  • Patent number: 7077088
Abstract: A desmodromic “springless” valve and adjustable cam system is provided which is adapted to be installed onto a head configured for an overhead cam for an internal combustion engine having at least one intake and one exhaust valve per cylinder. The system includes a main camshaft, a cam lobe with a follower groove formed in each side of the cam, at least one intake and one exhaust valve assigned to each cylinder, a valve connector installed onto the distal tip of each valve, a hydraulic lifter assigned to each valve. The system further includes a rocker defined by a valve movement end and lifter end, wherein the valve movement end is adapted to be mechanically linked to a respective valve connector and the lifter end is adapted to be pressed against a respective piston tip by a rocker retainer. During operation (i.e.

  • Patent number: 7011071
Abstract: An internal boost system integrated to an engine is provided which includes a blanking plate; a plenum chamber disposed within the oil sump having an exit flange disposed through a side of the oil sump; at least one one-way valve disposed through the blanking plate adapted to allow compressed air flow into the plenum chamber; a plurality of one-way valves disposed through the lower-end of the engine to allow fresh air to be drawn internally into the engine; a fresh air manifold in communication with the plurality of one-way valves disposed through the lower-end of the engine; and an internal boost supply pipe in communication with the plenum chamber exit flange and an air intake manifold of the engine.

  • Patent number: 6948468
Abstract: The present invention provides an exemplary rockerless desmodromic valve and adjustable overhead cam system adapted to be installed onto a head for an internal combustion engine which utilizes at least one valve for each intake and exhaust port. The system includes a plurality of valves having a retaining sphere disposed on a distal tip of a stem of each valve; a camshaft; and a split cam lobe assembly assigned to each valve. The split cam lobe assemblies include a left and right cam lobe, a camshaft receiving hole oriented transversely through each cam lobe adapted to slidably receive the camshaft, and a cam following groove halve disposed on the interior side. Furthermore, the interior sides of the left and right cam lobe are adapted to be interfaced together to form a following groove having a generally spherical cross-sectional shape adapted to slidably receive the retaining sphere from a respective one of the valves.

  • Patent number: 6763801
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided wherein the crankcase is sealed from the oil pan to provide an airtight compression chamber wherein the air is compressed by action of the pistons. Air is withdrawn from the atmosphere through one-way valves on the engine block. The compressed air is then passed from the compression chamber into, optionally, a compressed air storage means where it is regulated through a valve for mixture with the air-fuel mixture from the carbureting means, thereby providing a boost in the air-fuel charge entering the combustion chambers. Lubricating modifications are also provided to lubricate the crankshaft and camshaft bearings located within the compression chamber.
