Publication number: 20240119326Abstract: Systems and methods for measuring quantum states of qubits with more than two levels are provided. A method can include, for a plurality of shuffling sequences, applying, by a quantum computer, one or more quantum gates to the one or more qubits to execute a quantum algorithm; applying, by the quantum computer, a shuffling sequence to the one or more qubits; and measuring, using a readout apparatus, the state of the one or more qubits to determine a readout state. The method can further include determining, by a classical computer or the quantum computer, an average occupation for one or more of the quantum states of the one or more qubits using the readout states for each of the shuffling sequences. The readout states can correspond to a state in a subset of the quantum states of the one or more qubits.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 10, 2023Publication date: April 11, 2024Inventors: Kevin Joseph Satzinger, Julian Shaw Kelly, Paul Victor Klimov, Alexander Nikolaevich Korotkov

Publication number: 20230066327Abstract: A method for controlling the transparency level in smart glass is provided. The method includes receiving a signal indicative of an ambient light intensity from a sensor in a smart glass, selecting a transparency level for an eyepiece in the smart glass based on the signal, and providing the transparency level to a control circuit so that the eyepiece can receive a desired current to activate a dimming device in the eyepiece to a desired level.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 19, 2022Publication date: March 2, 2023Inventors: Nan Wang, Johana Gabriela Coyoc Escudero, Julian Joseph Maurice Fessard, Cory Angelo Harris, Melinda Dora Szabo

Patent number: 8401880Abstract: A computer network may include a host computer and a plurality of computer workstations selectively connectable thereto at which user work sessions may be initiated. Each computer workstation when disconnected from the host computer (e.g., due to server outage, etc.) may advantageously initiate a user session responsive to a user request and store session information for updating the respective user account balance when reconnected with the host computer. Additionally, when the computer workstations are connected to the host computer they may copy respective user account balances from the host computer upon initiation of user sessions, and update the copied account balances based upon computer usage during the respective user sessions. The computer network may also include at least one reservation computer for cooperating with the host computer to schedule user session reservations and provide a requesting user an estimated time before a user session will be made available.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2009Date of Patent: March 19, 2013Assignee: Pharos Systems International, Inc.Inventors: Paul James Reddy, Julian Joseph Sharpe, David Andrew Teviotdale, Patrick Gibb, Peter James Riddell

Publication number: 20100291856Abstract: A device for generating an air wall comprises a primary blower slit for generating a flat primary air stream in a passage opening mutually separating two spaces with different temperatures. Two adjacent air streams with the same direction and speed are added to the primary air stream. The primary air stream has a temperature between those of the secondary air streams. The absolute humidity of the air of the primary air stream is at least equal to that of the cold secondary air stream and lower than that of the warm secondary air stream. The air speed of the primary air stream amounts to at least 15 m/s. The width of the primary blower slit lies in the range of 15-40 mm. The length of the primary blower slit in the direction of the air stream lies roughly in the range of 5-40 cm, preferably 10-30 cm.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 16, 2008Publication date: November 18, 2010Applicant: Handelsmaatschappij Willy Deweerdt BVBAInventors: Ernest Jozef Elias Berben, Peter Julian Joseph Deweerdt

Patent number: 5225332Abstract: A process for manipulation of liquid microdroplets is disclosed. The process involves formation of microdroplets such that physical forces based on particular interactions of the microdroplets with a surrounding non-aqueous fluid results can be used to alter the position of the microdroplets.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 1988Date of Patent: July 6, 1993Assignee: Massachusetts Institute of TechnologyInventors: James C.
