    Abstract: A high performance color cathode ray tube is manufactured by welding a shadow mask under very high tension to a metal ring brazed to the tube envelope. The shadow mask material has a high yield strength and a thermal coefficient of expansion near that of the ceramic ring portion of the envelope to which it is secured.
