  • Patent number: 4706786
Abstract: The pull- or push rod of a brake linkage, preferably in the form of a brake clamp, features a double spindle (21) whose oppositely directed threaded ends (20) are screwed into nuts (14) which have a self-locking thread and are hinged to brake levers (4). A flat spiral spring (23) continuously loads the double spindle (21) in the direction of rotation for brake clearance adjustment, while a rotary lock keeps the double spindle (21) in place when the brakes are released. Upon achievement of an application stroke or pressure, for the brakes, the rotary lock is released, and by turning the double spindle (21), excessive play of the brakes at the beginning of the braking process is compensated immediately and completely.

  • Patent number: 4573553
Abstract: Disc brake for rail vehicles having a brake clamp (7) located in one plane and having two brake levers (4) having their central portions connected by a pull rod (5). The latter is formed with a rotatable threaded spindle (9) as a stay, which spindle is rotatable from the brake cylinder (15) by means of a turning lever having a play adjustment device. The axle (16) of the brake cylinder (15) extends perpendicularly to the plane (8) of the brake clamp (7) between the two brake levers (4) and between the pull rod (5) and a bearing block (6) for the brake lever ends, at a distance from the brake disc. The brake cylinder (15) carries the bearing block for the brake lever ends and a carrier arm (22) for the pendulum suspensions (24) of the brake shoes (2).

  • Patent number: 4493401
Abstract: An automatic brake resetting device for railway vehicle brakes has two telescopingly displaceable rod members which transmit a braking force. A rotatable coupling element having a threaded shaft with a non-self-locking thread is connected to one of the rod members and a rotary coupling connects the coupling element with the other rod member. The rotary coupling is actuated by axial displacement of the rotatable coupling element with respect to the other rod member and is urged by a spring into the engaged position between the rotatable coupling element and the other rod member. A lever transmits force between a control stop device slideably supported on a guide member and the rotatable coupling element and has such a transmission ratio so as to amplify the force transmitted from a spring of the control stop device to the coupling element.

  • Patent number: 4431089
Abstract: The device automatically adjusts the slack in the brake linkage of railway vehicle during the braking process and has two telescoping rod members one of which is connected with a brake motor and the other is connected to the brake linkage. A nut, nonrotateably mounted on the brake linkage rod member, is threaded upon a rotateable spindle shaft which is axially moveable a limited distance within the brake motor rod member and is connected to this rod member by a control clutch. When the control clutch is stressed by torque, the control clutch member will become disengaged from the brake motor rod member to permit a relative adjustment between the two rod members to overcome any slack. When slack is overcome, a rotary clutch between the threaded spindle and the brake motor rod member will be engaged so that braking force can be transmitted between the rod members.

  • Patent number: 4226168
Abstract: A spring-loaded brake cylinder particularly for the air brake system of a railway vehicle has a piston slidable within a housing and a threaded shaft and nut assembly between the piston and a piston rod. The nut is carried upon a non-self-locking thread on the threaded shaft and either the shaft or nut is rotatable and the other is non-rotatable. A loading spring has one end supported by a portion of the housing and secured against axial displacement and has a second end acting against the piston. A selectively operable rotary coupling is disposed in the path of the torque resulting from the force exerted by the spring acting upon the shaft and nut assembly so that the shaft and nut are free to rotate with respect to each other when the rotary coupling is actuated.
