Abstract: A method and apparatus for installing a printer driver of an image forming apparatus in a printing environment using a universal printer driver, the method including: displaying one or more functions that are supported by one or more image forming apparatuses connected to the printing environment; selecting at least one function from among the displayed functions; and installing a printer driver of a connected image forming apparatus that supports the selected at least one function. Thus, even if a model name of the printer driver of the image forming apparatus to be used is not recognized, a printer driver of the image forming apparatus that supports the functions to be used can be installed.

Abstract: A scanning apparatus and a method thereof include a scanning unit scanning a document and outputting a scanned result, at least one external storage unit detachably attached to the apparatus, at least one internal storage unit, and a controller detecting an attachment state of the external storage unit and storing the scanned result in one of the external storage unit and the internal storage unit according to the attachment state of the external storage unit. The scanning unit of the scanning apparatus is combined with a user scanning unit and a user printing unit into a combination apparatus, and the scanned result is printed in a printing apparatus spaced-apart from the scanning apparatus by a distance, thereby removing cables between the scanning or printing apparatus and a personal computer.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a communication interface unit which allows the print controlling terminal to recognize the image forming apparatus as a printer, a determination unit which determines whether a printer driver of the image forming apparatus is installed in the print controlling terminal, a controlling unit which controls the communication interface unit to receive print data generated by the printer driver, and an image forming unit which prints the received print data, and the communication interface unit, if a printer driver is not installed in the print controlling terminal, controls the print controlling terminal to additionally recognize the image forming apparatus as an external storage medium and provides the print controlling terminal with a printer driver installation program stored in the external storage medium, and a method of performing the same.

The software-serving method may also include sending the stored host device software to the host device if it is determined that the host device installation software needs to be updated. Thus, the method may serve updated host device software to any of a plurality of host devices, so the host device installation software may be more conveniently updated.
