  • Patent number: 8059083
Abstract: An LCD apparatus displays a color image of a frame divided into a plurality of periods in which different colors are displayed. The LCD apparatus includes an LCD panel and a number of light-emitting units. The LCD panel includes a plurality of gate lines and a plurality of data lines crossing the plurality of the gate lines. The light-emitting units generate different colors in each of the periods such that an outermost light-emitting unit emits light longer than a second outermost light-emitting unit thereby enhancing luminance uniformity.

  • Publication number: 20110216049
Abstract: Provided is a visible light communication apparatus. The visible light communication apparatus includes: a display unit that displays an image according to an image signal; a light source unit that operates as a backlight for the display unit, generates an optical signal by driving a light source based on a data signal, and outputs the generated optical signal to the display unit; a sensor unit that detects a region corresponding to a shape of a terminal which touches or approaches the display unit; and an image signal conversion unit that converts the image signal such that an image displayed in the region detected by the sensor unit is converted to a bright image having a gray level higher than a predetermined reference gray level.

  • Publication number: 20110044695
Abstract: A visible light communication system includes a light source emitting a first light having information, an optical filter receiving the first light and an externally provided second light and filtering the first and second light according to wavelength bands of the first and second light to output a filtered light, a photoelectric device receiving the filtered light to generate an output signal, and a data output part receiving the output signal to output data. Accordingly, the external light not having information may be substantially prevented from being provided to the photoelectric device, thereby preventing noise from occurring on the output signal. In addition, no additional operation is required to filter the output signal from the photoelectric device.

  • Patent number: 7796114
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus includes an LCD panel and light-emitting units. The light-emitting units generate lights in a corresponding light-emitting interval to illuminate a part of the LCD panel corresponding to the light-emitting units. A light-emitting ending point of the light-emitting interval is disposed between a first maximum light-transmitting time of a first region of the part of the LCD panel and a second maximum light-transmitting time of a second region of the part of the LCD panel, the first region corresponding to the first gate line of gate lines belonging to the part of the LCD panel illuminated by the light-emitting unit and the second region corresponding to the last gate line of the gate lines.

  • Patent number: 7764267
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus time-divides a frame into a plurality of fields, in which lights having a color different from each other, are generated. The LCD apparatus includes a backlight unit. The backlight unit includes n of light-generating units sequentially generating the lights in the fields. An initial light-generating time of an nth light-generating unit being delayed by a predetermined time gap relative to the (n?1)th light-generating unit so that each of the fields includes a first period, in which one of the lights is generated, and a second period, in which at least two of the lights are generated. The light-generating units generate a peak light having a peak intensity in the first period. Thus, the intensity of light or the time period for which the light is generated, is controlled so that color mixing is minimized and color purity is improved.

  • Publication number: 20100073641
Abstract: A liquid crystal display is provided having improved image quality and visibility. The display device includes: a plurality of display panels which display multiple images from multiple display panels; a projection film which overlaps the display panels; and a lens panel including a first lens unit and a second lens unit is interposed between the display panel and the projection film. The first lens unit refracts images and the second lens unit improves image brightness. Therefore the resultant projection is a seamlessly connected image from the multiple display panels.

  • Publication number: 20070247560
Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus displaying a color image of a frame by dividing the frame into a plurality of periods in which different colors are displayed includes an LCD panel and light-emitting units. The light-emitting units are disposed under the LCD panel and generate lights having different colors in corresponding periods during a light-emitting interval. For example, the turn-on times of the light-emitting units are sequentially delayed as much as the voltage-transmittance response waveform of the liquid crystal is delayed from the first light-emitting unit to the last light-emitting unit. The light-emitting interval of a first region of the LCD panel ends shortly after its maximum value is reached corresponding to a first gate line of a light-emitting unit, and the light emitting interval of a second region corresponding to a last gate line of the light-emitting unit is delayed to maximize luminance.
