One ICP material has a formula wherein —O(CO)-L-C(O)O— is the ligand, M and M? are each a metal ion and are the same or different, Sol and Sol? are each a solvent molecule and are the same or different, x and y are each selected from the group consisting of 0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, and 3.5, and n is at least 100. Also disclosed are methods of making the ICP materials and methods of adsorbing a substance by contacting the ICP material with the substance. The substance can be a gas.
