  • Patent number: 4941372
Abstract: An apparatus for controlling gear shifting in an automatic transmission on a motor vehicle has maximum speed range cut-off switch which can manually be turned on and off selectively, the arrangement being such that the setting of a maximum speed range in each of the shift ranges is prohibited by turning on the maximum speed range cut-off switch. When the maximum-speed range cut-off switch is turned off, speed range shifting is automatically performed dependent on the traveling states of the motor vehicle in one of the shift ranges which is selected by the shift lever shifted to a corresponding shift position. When the maximum speed range cut-off switch is turned on, the setting of the maximum speed range is prohibited in each of the shift ranges. In each shift range, speed range shifting is carried out automatically between the lowest-speed range and a speed range which is one range lower than the maximum speed range dependent on the traveling states of the motor vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4860708
Abstract: A control system for a throttle valve in automotive internal combustion engines in which the throttle valve is both mechanically linked with an accelerator pedal and also connected with an actuator such as a pulse motor for fine-adjusting the opening of the throttle valve in the closing direction in accordance with the operating state of the engine after it has been opened through the mechanical linkage. A spring is inserted in the mechanical linkage system between the accelerator pedal and the throttle valve. The provision of the spring substantially isolates the accelerator pedal from forces acting in other parts of the system so that the operator does not feel an unnatural change in the amount of pressure needed to depress the accelerator pedal when the actuator goes into operation.

  • Patent number: 4700819
Abstract: A method of controlling a direct-coupling mechanism of a hydraulic torque converter of an automatic transmission for an automotive vehicle, wherein the transmission capacity of the direct-coupling mechanism is controlled such that the value of a first predetermined parameter indicative of an amount of relative slip between input and output members of the hydraulic torque converter which are mechanically engaged with each other by the direct-coupling mechanism lies within a predetermined reference range. The value of a second predetermined parameter indicative of one of said plurality operating modes for the automotive vehicle is detected. Determined in dependence on the detected value of the second predetermined parameter is either the predetermined reference range of the value of the first predetermined parameter or a rate at which the transmission capacity is controlled such that the value of said predetermined parameter changes toward the predetermined reference range of the first predetermined parameter.

  • Patent number: 4653622
Abstract: A creep prevention control device for an automatic transmission apparatus for a motor vehicle. The creep prevention control device has a mechanism for preventing creep caused by the automatic transmission apparatus and a mechanism for increasing the idling speed of an engine of the motor vehicle. These mechanisms are controlled on the basis of signals generated by sensors for detecting operating conditions of the motor vehicles and indicative of the detected operating conditions. The mechanism for increasing the engine idling speed is actuated when rendering the creep preventing mechanism inoperative so that the creep prevention can timely be controlled and the engine can idle in an optimum condition at all times.
