  • Patent number: 5193405
Abstract: A underwater mobile type inspection system is disclosed wherein said system comprises a multi-articulated manipulator with a probe attached at its tip end thereof. A pivot base supports the proximal end of the manipulator for free rotation and is provided with a propulsion device. An anchoring base is attached to the bottom of said pivot base via a pivot driving mechanism. An adhesion device and a mobile vehicle device are provided, both of which are mounted on the outer periphery of said anchoring base. The inspection system may be applicable to a defect finding operation, other inspecting procedures, cleaning and recovery operations of foreign materials in large-sized vessels, such as nuclear reactor pressure vessels, water pools and storage tanks etc.

  • Patent number: 4735483
Abstract: A fiber scope of the side-viewing type includes an image guide and two light guides disposed on both sides thereof in an objective part. The fiber scope is suitable for the observation of the surface of long articles assembled with narrow gaps therebetween as in an assembly of nuclear fuel rods in a nuclear reactor and a wide field of view can be secured even if an object to be observed stands within a point-blank range of an objective part. Also a plurality of long articles can be simultaneously observed by the fiber scope or the observation can be carried out while moving the fiber scope in the scanning direction. If the fiber scope is used in a radioactive environment, highly radiation resistant optical fibers are used.

  • Patent number: 4299652
Abstract: A process is disclosed in which a waste gas containing sulfur compounds and carbon dioxide from pulp mill is contacted with an aqueous alkali solution derived from green liquor, white liquor or weak white liquor having low pH value and low sodium ion concentration and having been oxidized, whereby the sulfur compounds are absorbed as completely as possible with minimal absorption of carbon dioxide in the waste gas.
