    Abstract: A coating method of coating an outer circumferential surface of a cylindrical base with a coater having a supply port, a coating solution chamber, and a slit communicating with the coating solution chamber, the slit being provided around an inner circumferential surface of the coater, comprisse steps of: feeding a coating solution from the supply port to the coating solution chamber so that the coating solution is discharged to the slit; adjusting an absolute pressure P in the coating solution chamber so as to satisfy the following formula: 3×104≦P≦3×106 (mmH2O) and relatively moving the cylindrical base through a hole formed by the inner circumferential surface of the coater so that an outer circumferential surface of the cylindrical base is uniformely coated with the coating solution flowing out from the slit.

    Abstract: An apparatus for coating a cylinder with a solution. The apparatus has a coater which includes a body having a circular hole through which the cylinder passes. A coating surface is provided on a wall of the circular hole so as to surround an outer surface of the cylinder as the cylinder passes through the circular hole. A solution chamber is provided in the body for storing the solution, and a slit is provided in the body for distributing the solution from the solution chamber to the coating surface. A feeding port is provided on a periphery of the body, and a feeding conduit is provided in the body for connecting the feeding port and the solution chamber so that the solution is fed from the feeding port to the solution chamber. The solution chamber has a height H2 of 5 mm to 50 mm, the slit has a slit gap distance HI, and a ratio H2/H1 is 10 to 1000.

    Abstract: In a method of coating outer surfaces of plural cylinders by a coater having a circular hole on which a coating surface is provided, gas is blown onto the outer surface of the cylinder by a cylindrical blowing device so that the cylinder is positioned coaxially with the circular hole. The gas amount is changed when the cylindrical blowing device blows gas onto a joint portion at which a bottom edge of an upper cylinder contacts with a top edge of a lower cylinder.

    Abstract: A method of manufacturing an electrophotographic receptor drum, has the following steps. Cylinder shafts of a plurality of cylindrical drums are aligned with each other; and circular ends of the drums are contacted with each other and the drums are stacked on each other. Photoreceptor material is continuously coated on circumferential surfaces of the drums while the drums are inserted into a ring-shaped coater and the ring-shaped coater is moved vertically from an upper portion to a lower portion of the stacked drums. Each of the drums satisfying the following inequalities at the same time is used for the coating:30.degree..ltoreq..theta..ltoreq.80.degree., and 0.01 mm.ltoreq.l.ltoreq.0.3 mmwhere .theta.
