    Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) device having a slim border, a high reliability and a better residual-image characteristic is described. The LCD device includes a pair of substrates, liquid crystal alignment films, a sealing part disposed on surfaces of the liquid crystal alignment films, and a liquid crystal layer containing liquid crystal molecules. The liquid crystal alignment films include a polymer (P) having in its main chain a moiety (1) or (2) described below. The moiety (1) is an alkylene chain having 3 or more carbon atoms. The moiety (2) has a structure obtained by inserting one or more of —CO—, —O—, —NH— and —Si(R1)2— between carbon atoms of an alkylene chain having 3 or more carbon atoms, wherein R1 is a monovalent hydrocarbon group having 1 to 12 carbon atoms.
