  • Publication number: 20140066558
Abstract: A foaming agent or a master batch comprising a foaming agent for producing hollow-shaped foamed plastics using a blow-molding process containing an antistatic agent. The antistatic agent can comprise a fatty acid ester, an ethoxylated amine, or an alkyl sulfonate. In addition, the invention comprises a method for producing hollow-shaped, foamed plastics using the antistatic agent/master batch. The use of the antistatic agent results in a reproducible, stable production of hollow foamed plastic products such as bottles or yogurt cups with a better cellular structure, which produces a soft, rough surface of the products with a better feel.

  • Patent number: 5672304
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for manufacturing a foaming synthetic material, for example, polystyrol, by means of an extruder, in whose entry the synthetic material is fed, to which by means of a fumigation aperture foaming gas in a liquid form, for example pentane, is introduced at a pressure maintaining the foaming gas in its liquid form, whereby throughout a following extruder region, the synthetic material provided with the foaming gas is homogenecised.

  • Patent number: 5628947
Abstract: A process for the simultaneous drying and crystallization of crystallizable thermoplastic synthetic material (plastic), e.g. polyethylene terephthalate, in which plastic from the melt is extruded in cord form, solidified at the surface by quenching in water and crystallized by gas treatment and dried, using a device for cooling and drying the cord emerging from dies having a casting gutter with its acceptance end arranged beneath the dies and a device producing a flow of coolant on the casting gutter within a quenching section, a subsequent dewatering section in which the casting gutter has apertures for the free flow of the coolant, a subsequent drying section in which the casting gutter has closely spaced nozzles for the passage of gas and a granulator downstream of the drying section. The lengths of the quenching, dewatering and drying sections must be such, taking account of the rate of creep of the cord along the casting gutter, that the passage time in the quenching section is a maximum of some 1.

  • Patent number: 5441394
Abstract: A device for cooling and granulating molten thermoplastic strands (1) emerging from dies (2) which either drop along the falling line starting at the dies or are guided in an operating position through a coolant bath (9), freely stressed between guide rollers fitted in the bath and then taken into a granulator (4). In the region between the dies and the coolant bath there is a precooling device (5) which carries the plastic strands emerging from the dies and takes them to the coolant bath. Behind the precooling device there is a gripping device (21 ) with opposed clamping rollers (41, 42) which can open and shut and move along a guiding rail to grip the forward ends of the plastic strands after they have been separated by a separator (22) movable through the falling line of the strands. The rollers with the forward ends of the strands are moved along the guiding rail running through the region of the coolant bath as far as the granulator, where they release the strands thereinto.

  • Patent number: 5268132
Abstract: Process and device for drawing off and blocking off a melt, especially of plastic material, with a heatable melter (1) fitted with a blocking valve (3) acting as a melt distributor from which the melt flows into a nozzle plate (10) which divides the melt by means of nozzles (14) into a plurality of threads, whereby the temperature of the melter and nozzle plate is regulated separately and the blocking valve is closed to block the melt off and the nozzle plate is tightly closed off by a cover (18). To draw off the melt with the blocking valve open, the temperature of the melter and the nozzle plate is kept substantially at the same level and to block off the melt with the blocking valve closed the nozzle plate is taken to a temperature just above the solidification temperature of the melt material.

  • Patent number: 5249944
Abstract: Device to collect and convey plastic strands, issuing from nozzles, on a discharge plate, over which cooling water flows, with a device to indicate the undisturbed passage of the plastic strands over the discharge plate or their accumulation on the discharge plate. At least one temperature-dependent electric resistor, which triggers a signal by way of a threshold value switch when the specified temperature is exceeded, is attached to a cooling water-free zone on the underside of the discharge plate in the region of impact of the plastic strands.

  • Patent number: 5182115
Abstract: A device for cooling, drying, and granulating molten strands issuing from nozzles with an outlet channel, the upper end of which is located below the nozzles, a device, generating a current of cooling liquid over the outlet channel, a granulator arranged downstream of the outlet channel and with a dehydrating section that is arranged upstream of the granulator and in which the strands rest on a support provided with orifices for the unrestricted passage of the cooling liquid. The outlet channel in the region following the dehydrating section is provided with inlet nozzles that inject a current of fluid and that are so close together and arranged over such a length in its bottom that the strands are guided with respect to the bottom virtually without friction along the outlet channel in the granulator arranged at its lower end and with a degree of dehydration that enables immediate further processing.

  • Patent number: 5118270
Abstract: An apparatus to cool and granulate strands discharged in a molten state from nozzles, particularly strands formed of plastics materials, includes a feeder trough having at its receiving end a collecting region disposed below the nozzles and a granulator at the opposite end thereof. The feeder trough includes over its entire length, a collecting region and a transport region, a longitudinally grooved perforated plate or screen material in which only a single strand is conducted along each groove, the strands being borne and guided along the grooves of the feeder trough by a gas current that passes through the plate material, aided by longitudinally directed gas current that may be blown along the grooves from a source disposed at the receiving end of the trough ahead of the collecting region.
