  • Patent number: 8496858
Abstract: The invention relates to a fiberglass spool comprising a self-supporting roll (12) having layers of windings (20) located one above the other of an optical fiber (13) for transmitting data that may be unwound from the interior of the roll outwards, wherein the windings (20) are fixed to one another by means of an adhesive bonding agent. In order to realize a sufficiently stable, self-supporting roll (12) that may be reliably unwound from the inside outwards without loops being pulled out of the roll (12), the roll (12) is structured as a cross-winding and a hydrocarbon-based, salt water-resistant, chemically inert impregnating material that may be liquefied by heating is used as the bonding agent.

  • Patent number: 6716411
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for finding nucleotide synthesis inhibitors which have a better therapeutic window. An efficacious dose of a nucleotide synthesis inhibitor is administered to a mammal. The concentration of the nucleotide synthesis inhibitor in the blood of the mammal is observed and it is determined whether the nucleotide synthesis inhibitor has a half-life which is shorter than that of N-(4-trifluoromethylphenyl)-2-cyano-3-hydroxycrotonamide. The invention also relates to a method of using nucleotide synthesis inhibitors in the treatment of immunological diseases.

  • Patent number: 6060194
Abstract: The invention relates to a rechargeable button cell, which contains negative and positive electrodes in the form of tablets separated by a separator and an alkaline electrolyte in a casing which is formed from a lower part in the form of a cup and an upper part in the form of a lid which fits therein, the casing parts being sealed in a gas-tight manner by swaging or crimping with the interposition of a sealing ring. The button cells according to the invention have a sealing ring (4) which has on the edge pointing into the button cell at least 3 retaining tabs (9) which hold and center the electrode tablet (3) located in the casing upper part (1). The method according to the invention for manufacturing the button cell is distinguished by separate prior assembly of the casing lower part with the positive electrode and the casing upper part with the negative electrode.

  • Patent number: 6027830
Abstract: An electrode set (i.e., a separator between two electrodes) is placed within an electrically nonconductive mounting cage prior to sealing the mounting cage/electrode set assembly within a battery container having a cup-shaped lower part and a lid-shaped upper part. In a preferred embodiment, the mounting cage has a ring from which extend retaining arms with a projection at the end. The retaining arms are interconnected by curved-rib connections positioned near the separator. The mounting cage enables the electrode set to be accurately assembled before being sealed within the battery container. The ring of the mounting cage forms a sealing ring between the battery container (which acts as one electrical contact for the battery) and a contact spring that is placed within the mounting cage before the electrode set and acts as the other electrical contact. The retaining arms and projections hold the components of the electrode set accurately in place during battery assembly.

  • Patent number: 5639569
Abstract: A gastight, sealed metal oxide/metal hydride storage battery, in particular, a nickel/metal hydride button cell, includes an auxiliary electrode with an active material composed of the same hydrogen storage alloy as that of the negative electrode with which the auxiliary electrode is electrically associated. As a result, the auxiliary electrode can maintain both oxygen consumption as well as hydrogen consumption (in the event of overcharging or polarity reversal of the cell). High gas consumption rates in the event of overcharging and polarity reversal are achieved with a strongly hydrophobic adjustment of the auxiliary electrode and a relatively weakly hydrophobic or hydrophilic adjustment of the negative electrode (by means of hydrophobic or hydrophilic binder additions, respectively), and by adding a highly conductive metal powder (Cu or Ni) to the mass of the negative electrode. Also achieved is a good discharge capacity, even at high currents of up to 2 CA.

  • Patent number: 5305347
Abstract: The invention discloses a method of measuring the rough frequency deviation in digital communication transmissions with echo propagation, particularly in the short-wave domain. A repeatedly transmitted PN sequence serves as the preamble of a data block. This PN sequence is compressed at the receiving end in matched filters provided in each one of a plurality of simultaneous, frequency offset Doppler channels. The Doppler channel having the greatest amplitude in the quadrature signal is selected for a determination of the rough frequency deviation. To detect a pattern in the preamble, the quadrature signals are examined for similarities by an amplitude comparison or in a cross-correlation process.

  • Patent number: 4566681
Abstract: The invention relates to a collating machine with several successively arranged feeders for the conveyance of sheets of paper on a conveyor line and with control devices at each feed station to monitor the formation of book blocks from which machine cycle-dependent error signals are output in the event of missed or duplicate feeding. It is the object of the invention to alter the operational flow of a conveyor line in such a way that in the event of defective book blocks, a manual separation of the book blocks and sorting of the individual sheets or sheet layers into the magazines at the feed stations can be eliminated. According to the invention, this is achieved by using a micro-computer to control a sliding rejection device with a station number indicator, located at the end of the conveyor line for the book blocks.
