  • Publication number: 20080000612
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for close-to-final-dimension casting of billets made of metal, particularly rectangular billets, wherein molten metal (2) is cast onto a circulating transport belt (3), followed by in-line rolling and cooling of said transport belt (3). The invention also relates to a device for carrying out the inventive method.

  • Patent number: 6626229
Abstract: A process for producing slabs having a thickness D>100 mm, at casting speeds v<3 m/min, in a continuous casting installation in which melt is supplied to a permanent mold from a storage reservoir via an immersion nozzle and from which, on the aperture side, a strand shell enclosing a liquid crater is withdrawn into a strand guidance frame, in particular a bow-type continuous casting installation. The melt supplied enters the permanent mold at a speed (vK) whose relationship with respect to the strand withdrawal speed (vB) is: vK:vB=6:1 to 60:1, and the flow filaments of the melt supplied are guided in such a way that, with regard to the melt level, they penetrate into the liquid crater over a length L<2 m over a wide front and with a profile which is rectangular in cross section.

  • Patent number: 6450242
Abstract: A method and a belt casting device for producing thin billets, in particular composed of steel, has an endless belt to which liquid metal is supplied via a feed device which has a casting channel and is connected to a metallurgical vessel. In this case, the feed device is in the form of a casting channel which has a first casting channel part in the form of a restriction channel part, and which has a second casting channel part whose opening faces the endless belt and whose size corresponds to the cross-sectional area of the finished product. The feed device is connected to a container to which liquid melt can be fed from a metallurgical vessel. Measurement elements are provided, which can be used to detect the level of the liquid melt in the container and/or the thickness of the billet located on the endless belt. Furthermore, the measured values are connected via a measurement and control element to an actuator which is connected to an element for adjusting the outlet rate from the metallurgical vessel.

  • Patent number: 6336575
Abstract: An immersion nozzle of a metallurgic vessel which is arranged upstream of a continuous casting mold and which is constructed as a single-piece structural component part and has, in the mouth area, a slit-shaped pour-out opening whose length is several times greater than its width. The immersion nozzle has a cylindrical shape with a circular, oval, or bone-shaped cross-sectional shape, and the slit-shaped pour-out opening is constructed as a continuous slit extending in the base and the side wall of the cylindrical part of the immersion nozzle.

  • Patent number: 6260740
Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a device for controlling the flow dispersion of a molten metal, in particular steel, which is conveyed from a melt container via a first immersion outlet part which has a polygonal, oval or circular cross-section, and an intermediate member through the second immersion outlet part which has an elongate cross-section, and flows into a stationary mold to produce slabs. The process is characterized by the following steps: (a) the central volume flow is reduced in the intake region of the second outlet part; (b) at the same time the angle of expansion (&dgr;) of the fluid jet is increased to such an extent that the return flow in the lateral region of the intermediate member and the second immersion outlet part is substantially stopped; and (c) when the melt leaves the second immersion outlet part, it flows at a velocity profile with velocity vectors which are smaller in the opening center than the regions of the small faces.

  • Patent number: 5916472
Abstract: The invention is directed to an immersion nozzle for casting metal, especially steel, in plants for the continuous casting of thin slabs. On order to provide an immersion casting pipe that is easy to manufacture, has a long life, and enables the liquid metal to flow out in a uniform manner, it is suggested, according to the invention, that the pour-in part (11) is a pipe having a straight-surface front mouth (12), and the pour-out part (21) is constructed from plane-surface wall elements (22, 23). For this purpose, the circular cross-sectional area (A.sub.R) of the pour-in part (11) is in a relationship to the rectangular free cross-sectional area (A.sub.E) of the pour-out part (21) such that A.sub.R /A.sub.E .gtoreq.1.7.
