A method for producing such battery and the use of such battery in a motor vehicle are also provided.

The electrolyte system includes: a glycol-based electrolyte solution containing a salt of a metal included in the negative electrode and a salt of a metal included in the positive electrode; a matrix adapted to retain the electrolyte solution, where two reversible reactions take place simultaneously in the cell: a reversible deposition and dissolution process of ions of a metal included in the negative electrode takes place in the negative electrode and a reversible ion exchange process of a metal included in the positive electrode takes place in the positive electrode. The metals are different from one another.

More particularly, the present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a lithiated metal-carbon composite electrode with a new structure having excellent charge/discharge and cycle characteristics, a lithiated metal-carbon composite electrode manufactured thereby, and an electrochemical device including the electrode. In the lithiated metal-carbon composite electrode, lithium is alloyed with a metal and is inserted into a crystal structure of carbon to form the composite having a stable structure. Thus, a volume of the metal is slightly varied, so a cycle characteristic may not be deteriorated and charge/discharge capacities may be improved.
