  • Patent number: 9007982
Abstract: A method to control cell selection and/or re-selection in a communication system comprising a plurality of cells with which terminal devices may communicate, the method including the steps of: determining that a terminal device is to start a session for a certain service, the service using a reception frequency; based on that determination, changing at least one cell selection and/or re-selection parameter in respect of the terminal device with the effect that a subsequent cell selection and/or re-selection performed by the device would favor cells that use the reception frequency used in the service session over other cells.

  • Patent number: 8411645
Abstract: A method, apparatus, system, network element, and software product are used to provide a traffic signal, such as a voice over internet protocol (VoIP) signal, via high speed packet access. The traffic signal is prepared and provided via a high speed transmission, and a control signal is gated to produce a discontinuous transmission. This reduces interference, and therefore increases traffic capacity.

  • Patent number: 7801496
Abstract: Methods, computer-readable media, and devices are provided that support antenna diversity in a communication system. In an exemplary method, a signal is received from a first device at a second device in a first channel. A determination is made concerning whether or not transmit diversity is applied to the first channel. If transmit diversity is applied to the first channel; a first channel estimate is determined based on a first pilot signal received from the first device and a second channel estimate is determined based on a second pilot signal received from the first device. The received signal is decoded based on the first channel estimate and the second channel estimate.

  • Publication number: 20090219893
Abstract: A method and system for soft handover area detection for uplink interference avoidance that includes a network device and mobile device in a communications network. A trigger criteria threshold is determined for the mobile device. The mobile device is using a downlink carrier. If a trigger criteria has risen above or fallen below the trigger criteria threshold, inter-frequency measurements of co-sited cells are performed and compared to determine if a soft handover area exists. Co-sited cells are searched for downlink carriers and reselection is initiated from the downlink carrier to a co-sited cell downlink carrier if the co-sited cell downlink carrier is useable by the mobile device. Reselection is initiated from the downlink carrier to a non co-sited cell downlink carrier if no co-sited cell downlink carrier useable by the mobile device is found. The system provides for reselection while uplink carrier interference is avoided.

  • Publication number: 20090041024
Abstract: In order to enable a more efficient use of an available transmission capacity, a transmitting device (10) assigns at least one identifier in common to at least two receiving devices (20, 30, 40). Further, it signals the at least one identifier to each of the receiving devices. A receiving device (20) receives and registers such a common identifier. Thereafter, the transmitting device announces a respective transmission of data packets for at least one of the receiving devices on a transmission channel by signaling the at least one common identifier. The receiving device (20) receives and detects such an identifier, which is used by the transmitting device (10) for announcing a transmission of data packets. The receiving device then extracts data packets for the receiving device from data packets on the transmission channel announced by the detected identifier.

  • Patent number: 7356313
Abstract: The use of the STTD is enabled in a network so that the common channels (CPICH etc.) do not need to be transmitted using transmit diversity, but the STTD can be enabled only for channels having dedicated pilots and which are intended for the UEs supporting this functionality. Other UEs not supporting transmit diversity can use the common channels as usual. In normal transmit diversity operation the UE will use the CPICH transmitted from both antennas as a phase reference. In the proposed method some of the common channels including CPICH are transmitted without transmit diversity even though the STTD is used on channels having dedicated pilots and which are intended for the UEs supporting this functionality.

  • Patent number: 7346349
Abstract: This invention addresses the problem of latency of response regarding information relying on an IMEISV from a CN. This is possible by defining the early RRC connection bits' indication to determine the supported signalling schemes and providing the IMEISV information from the terminal to the network. After this point the CN is able providing this mapping information to the radio access network before actual radio links are utilized. The idea here is for early RRC message information to be used for indicating what version of bitmap correction terminal capabilities refers to and what procedures can be utilized while waiting for this bit map information from the CN. Using this approach the length of the early RRC message can be kept short, the content of corrections can be well defined saving signalling bits, and the concern of a fast available indication on the connection set-up phase can still be addressed.

  • Patent number: 7230932
Abstract: A method is described for providing a discontinuous radio link for user equipment in a telecommunication network in a physical radio transmission layer while receiving packets during a packet service mode (i.e. maintaining the logical connection in higher protocol layers). The user equipment enters into a discontinuous reception mode receiving either a) two or more slots of each radio frame, or b) one or more frames; and powers down its receiver circuitry for either a) the remaining slots of the radio frame or b) one or more predefined periods, signaled by the telecommunication network. The two or more slots may be consecutive or non-consecutive slots in the radio frame.

  • Patent number: 7059155
Abstract: A method of bending glass, in which glass (5) is heated in a bending furnace (1). After the heating, the glass (5) is transferred onto a mold (7). The glass-bending mold (7) is at at least one point arranged to be bent substantially in its entirety when the mold (7) is transferred from the position it had during the initial heating of the glass (5) into a position where the glass (5) is arranged upon the mold (7).

  • Patent number: 7043242
Abstract: A method and device for avoiding adjacent channel interference and reducing disconnections caused thereby, during communication between a mobile device and a base station in a wireless telecommunications network. The mobile device measures the strength of a received signal before the signal enters one or more selected filters, and compares the strength of the signal after the filtering, in order to estimate a power ratio of the adjacent channel interference to communication channel power. If the power ratio is greater than a threshold, then a handover is requested to an alternative communication channel available between the mobile device and either the base station or another base station.

  • Patent number: 6914944
Abstract: The invention pertains in general to the testing of the operation of radio and other data transmission apparatus. In particular the invention pertains to the testing of the operation of a digital radio apparatus on the basis of error statistics. In order to test functions relating to data transmission, a simulation system produces a pseudorandom bit sequence or some other test sequence which is packed into downlink frames and sent to the data transmission apparatus tested. In accordance with the invention, a known number of errors are generated in the test sequence. As the data transmission apparatus tested compares the received test sequence to the sequence it has produced, it detects the errors in the received sequence and compiles various error statistics, e.g., in the form of bit error ratio (BER) or frame erasure ratio (FER).

  • Patent number: 6856802
Abstract: The invention concerns a method and associated hardware units for testing the functioning of downlink data communication in a mobile station (202, 802, 902). The mobile station is equipped for receiving (302, 805) a signal in the downlink direction and for sending (312, 808) a signal in the uplink direction. As a part of the method, a test signal (711, 715, 716, 805) is received in the downlink direction. The received test signal is compared (208, 713, 908) to a known form of the test signal. There is produced and temporarily stored (209, 806, 909) information about errors which were detected in the received test signal during the comparing step. In the uplink direction a signal is sent (714, 717, 808) representing the stored information about errors.
