  • Publication number: 20110209280
Abstract: The present invention provides an apparatus and method for improving the creation of plunging and peeling waves in a pool or body of water. The improvement is accomplished by orientating one or more wave making devices at an acute angle to one another and then placing these angled wave making devices adjacent to an array of wave making devices. The angled wave making devices are arranged and orientated such that when they generate a wave, the generated wave converges with the waves generated from the array of wave making devices. This convergence of waves constitutes a wave-wave interaction. This wave-wave interaction replicates the physical process of wave focusing and favors the creation of a plunging and peeling wave.

  • Publication number: 20100226719
Abstract: An orientation of wave generating devices is proposed that facilitates the creation of plunging breakers in a body of water. Water waves transform into plunging breakers under specific characteristics of water wave mechanics. Shoaling and refraction are specific processes of water wave mechanics that cause this transformation. By orientating two or more wave generating devices wherein the waves generated by these devices converge into one another, the refraction process of plunging breakers can be simulated. This orientation of wave generating devices therefore facilitates the creation of plunging breakers in a body of water. The plunging breaker can then be simulated in a manner favorable for surfing.

  • Publication number: 20080317451
Abstract: The Traveling Camera Apparatus for Surfing is embodied to film and photograph a surfer in motion on a breaking wave. The Traveling Camera Apparatus for Surfing is intended to have a full range of motion with functionality in 6 degrees of freedom and with the ability to operate in and out of the water. The advent for such an apparatus is motivated by the advance of the surfing photography/videography industry. The economic feasibility of the invention is spawned by the advent of wavepools equipped with breaking wave making devices that impart to creating breaking waves for surfing in a controlled environment. In such a wavepool a surfer may travel an entire length of the wavepool as permitted by the propagation of the breaking wave. The Traveling Camera Apparatus for Surfing shall be designed to follow along side the subject and create a multitude of images not possible if the camera were stationary in the wavepool.
