  • Patent number: 9272777
Abstract: A cooling system using one or more heat pipes rotating about a central axis to transfer heat energy from one medium to another. The heat pipes are oriented within a rotating member such that the axis of the heat pipe is non-coaxial with that of a central axis of the rotating member. Centrifugal forces are used to assist the movement of the working fluid within the heat pipe. The cooling system also includes heat pipes associated with a planetary carrier assembly and supplemental heat exchangers for use in aircraft and other machinery.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 26, 2012
Date of Patent: March 1, 2016
    Assignee: Textron Innovations Inc.
Inventors: Monte A. McGlaun, K. Myron Jackson

  • Patent number: 8231280
Abstract: A sculptured bearing liner includes an inner surface defining a cavity configured to receive a bearing, an outer surface and a reduced thickness portion extending from one of the inner surface and the outer surface. A bearing assembly includes a bearing liner having an inner surface, an outer surface, and a reduced thickness portion extending between the inner surface and the outer surface, the inner surface defining a cavity. The bearing assembly further includes at least one bearing disposed in the cavity.

  • Patent number: 8132474
Abstract: A Hall effect helicopter mast torque meter includes a stand pipe, a first magnet, a second magnet, and a sensor. The stand pipe is connected to the top of the mast such that the stand pipe rotates at the same velocity as the mast. The first magnet is operably associated with the stand pipe which is operably associated with the top of the mast. The second magnet is operably associated with the bottom of the mast. The sensor detects the magnetic field of the first magnet and the second magnet.

  • Publication number: 20110030503
Abstract: A housing assembly for use in a rotorcraft includes a housing having an opening, a bearing configured to radially and/or axially support a shaft that is adapted to rotate, the bearing disposed within the opening of the housing, and a liner arranged between the housing and the bearing. The liner is made of a material selected from the group consisting of ceramic material, ceramic coated material, ceramic and metallic hybrid material, lightweight metallic material, lightweight metallic alloy material and lightweight metallic coated material.
