  • Patent number: 5896951
Abstract: Magnetizing current generated in a linear induction motor driving elevator car doors in elevator systems is optimized. Magnetizing current level is set low for door operation modes requiring lower levels of thrust, such as hold open and hold closed. Magnetizing current level is increased for modes of door operation requiring greater thrust levels, such as closing or opening. Optimization of magnetizing current in linear induction motors reduces overheating and increases energy efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5862887
Abstract: An elevator car door system for opening and closing elevator car doors in an elevator car includes a high performance linear induction motor having a pair of movable motor primaries, each attached to a door hanger for each door, and a stationary motor secondary attached to a header bracket which is secured to the elevator car. Each motor primary includes a primary winding and a backiron spaced apart by a plurality of spacers that establish a magnetic gap therebetween. The motor secondary fits between the primary winding and the backiron as the moving motor primaries travel across the motor secondary, generating thrust.

  • Patent number: 5299662
Abstract: A linear motor elevator system includes a car mechanically coupled to a counterweight assembly such that the car roping ratio is less than the counterweight assembly roping ratio. A primary element of the linear motor is disposed on or within a hoistway wall associated with the secondary element of the linear motor. Alternatively, the primary element is affixed to a support frame of the elevator system. The counterweight assembly includes the motor secondary. The elevator system of the present invention reduces the volume within the hoistway interior occupied by the primary and secondary members of the linear motor.

  • Patent number: 3974816
Abstract: An electronic ignition control system including one coil assembly having a high number of turns to charge the associated capacitors to a desired level when the speed of the engine is low, and another coil assembly having a low number of turns to charge the capacitors to a desired level when the speed of the engine is high to thereby provide energy at a suitable level to fire the associated spark plugs. The system also includes means for regulating the voltage supplied by the alternator coils to a battery and thus preventing the battery from overcharging; and, means are provided for driving a tachometer proportionally to the firing pulses supplied to the spark plugs.
