  • Patent number: 4990785
Abstract: Radiation imaging apparatus includes first and second bodies of material capable of producing scintillations in response to bombardment by ionizing radiation, each scintillation producing body having a surface bordered in part by an edge, the edge of the first body adjacent the edge of the second body. The radiation imaging apparatus also includes joining members located between the edges of the first and second bodies for transmitting light emitted from the edges of the first and second bodies as a result of scintillations produced by the first and second bodies, a collimator for collimating the ionizing radiation, and photomultiplier tubes for converting the scintillations to electrical outputs including a plurality of scintillation sensing units on the first and second scintillation producing bodies and on the joining body.

  • Patent number: 4873632
Abstract: The apparatus reduces scatter in radiation imaging and may be used with a detector of ionizing radiation that is partly unscattered and partly Compton scattered. The detector produces an energy signal representing values of energy of the radiation and produces coordinate position information for the radiation. Data storage means for holding numerical values and means for displaying an image based on the numerical values in the data storage means are also used with the inventive apparatus. The scatter reduction apparatus includes circuitry responsive to the energy signal from the detector for producing first and second signals which indicate whether each value of energy represented by the energy signal at a given time is in a first energy range or in a second energy range less than half as wide as the first energy range and having at least some energies in common with the first energy range.

  • Patent number: 4755680
Abstract: Radiation imaging apparatus includes a substantially tubular body of material capable of producing scintillations in response to bombardment by ionizing radiation and means for converting the scintillations to electrical outputs including a plurality of scintillation sensing units disposed both along and around the outside of the substantially tubular body. A radiation imaging method processes outputs of the scintillation sensing units, which have axial positions and positions relative to first and second coordinates perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the tubular body.
