  • Patent number: 10458386
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for a modular hydrokinetic turbine. An apparatus includes modular vertically floating units tethered to shore with a generator residing above a waterway and a plurality of vertically oriented blades submerged in the waterway to convert a latent kinetic energy of a moving waterway into electricity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 8, 2016
Date of Patent: October 29, 2019
    Assignee: Power Development International, Inc.
Inventors: Kahoru Watanabe, Thomas M. Feldman

  • Publication number: 20180340508
Abstract: A vertical axis turbine includes a vertical rotary shaft and turbine blades mechanically coupled to the vertical rotary shaft, each of the turbine blades including curved rounded physical geometries on a leading edge. A method of reducing drag includes improving lift over an air foil design using curved rounded physical geometries on a leading edge of hydrokinetic vertical axis blades that produce channels of high and low pressure water flows over a surface of the hydrokinetic vertical axis blades.

  • Patent number: 9404474
Abstract: A system and method for efficient wind power generation is provided. The system includes a shaft that rotates around a vertical axis, a plurality of blades, and a plurality of arms that couple the blades to the shaft. The blades are configured to have a rounded, symmetrical design which minimizes the effects of lift. The blades are also configured to include a notched portion for capturing wind and using it to propel the blades. The blades may also be configured to include winglets, which reduce vortex shedding, drag, and noise, and could also reduce friction on the bearings caused by gravity.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 26, 2012
Date of Patent: August 2, 2016

  • Publication number: 20140062188
Abstract: A utility pole kit efficiently retrofits existing street and parking light systems and other utility poles to allow replacement of such system with more efficient lighting and power sources. Existing foundations of older light poles are used, and the poles are replaced with new solar powered poles that are self-raising and are fully self-contained, including batteries used for storing power.
