  • Publication number: 20160036713
Abstract: A protocol element referred to as a secure handle is described which provides an efficient and reliable method for application-to-application signaling in multi-process and multi-computer environments. The secure handle includes an absolute memory reference which allows the kernel to more quickly and efficiently associate a network data packet with an application's communication context in the kernel.

  • Patent number: 9237034
Abstract: In a networked multi computer environment, with redundant links, network interface cards (NICs) are commonly duplicated and teamed to provide a recovery mechanism when network components fail. Embodiments of the present inventions avoid teaming of pairs of NICs and provide a computing host with redundant network connections for the computing host through a switch that is transparent to the computing host. The computing host itself; that is, its hardware and software, is relieved of the duty of network access redundancy and returned to the simple, simplex networking operating mode. The switch replaces a potentially large number of NICs and the need for computing host network access redundancy management which leads to hardware and software cost reductions and increases the robustness and reliability of the system through redundant network access.

  • Publication number: 20160007236
Abstract: The application relates to session mobility between 3GPP, such as UMTS and LTE, networks and non-3GPP, such as WLAN, access networks and in particular network-based mobility where the PDN gateway PDN GW acts as the user-plane anchor between the two. This topic is discussed in 3GPP, ongoing work item Study on S2a Mobility based On GTP & WLAN access to EPC, SaMOG, TR 23.852; and TS 23.402. Within the SaMOG Rel-12 study, a number of solutions for handover with IP address preservation have been proposed, see 3GPP TR 23.852 section 8.2. However, the current standards do not prevent that that in case of handover, the UE interface for the source path might be released before the configuration for the target path interface has been configured and the UE might not have any interface at all. Hence, the application proposes that release of the source path resources is delayed until the relevant network node has received an indication that the UE has configured its communication interface for the target path.

  • Publication number: 20150078365
Abstract: An Access Point (“AP”) apparatus comprising one or more processors containing program code. The program code may be configured to: (i) cause the AP to broadcast a beacon containing a single SSID indentifying the AP; (ii) cause the AP to receive from the STA an query for network information for at least one network operator accessible through the AP; and (iii) cause the AP to send to the STA, for the at least one network operator, a network information description element, in response to the network information query. The AP providing the plural responses broadcasts only a single service set identification (“SSID”).

  • Publication number: 20140323087
Abstract: WiFi/3GPP access selection techniques are used to control selection by a user terminal between cellular network cells and Wi-Fi cells. Cellular network cells providing overlapping coverage with Wi-Fi cells are correlated with the Wi-Fi cells. A received signal strength threshold is determined for each Wi-Fi cell based on an average throughput of the cellular network cells correlated with the Wi-Fi cell. The WiFi user terminal admit threshold is used to control the effective coverage of the Wi-Fi cell. A user terminal operating within a cellular network cell is admitted to a Wi-Fi only if it is within the effective coverage area of the Wi-Fi cell as determined by the received signal strength threshold. Increasing the threshold shrinks the effective coverage area of the Wi-Fi cell to allow user terminal only of strong RSSI to make connection to the WiFi Cell, and steers user terminal of weak RSSI away from the Wi-Fi cell.

  • Publication number: 20140324371
Abstract: Prediction techniques are presented for predicting a current value of a performance measurement using historic performance measurement data and recent performance measurement data, which may not reflect the current conditions. A daily trend in a series of performance measurements is obtained. The daily trend comprises a set of data points at different times of day, wherein each data point represents an average value of the performance measurements at a corresponding time of day over a plurality of days. One or more recent performance measurements over a recent time interval are also obtained. A current value of the performance measurements is predicted, based on the daily trend and the recent performance measurements.

  • Publication number: 20140036807
Abstract: A system and method of providing, to a client, access to multiple packet data networks (PDNs), each PDN providing a dedicated PDN connection is disclosed. The client is provided with a number of virtual MAC addresses. Each of the virtual MAC addresses is assigned to a dedicated PDN connection and each dedicated PDN connection is associated with one of the packet data networks. One of the virtual MAC addresses is then delivered via a 4 address MAC frame when the client is communicating with the associated data service. The client may be a Wi-Fi client communicating with the associated data service over a cellular data network.

  • Patent number: 7908372
Abstract: An embodiment of one of the inventions disclosed herein is a computer system that includes a plurality of interconnected computational hosts, each of which are connected to one of a plurality of buffers. Each of the buffers includes a plurality of buffer spaces. Each of the computational hosts may be configured such that each transfer of a data packet from one of the plurality of computational hosts acting as a source of the data packet to another one of the plurality of computational hosts acting as a destination of the data packet is controlled by an availability of buffer spaces in the buffer coupled to the destination computational host.

  • Patent number: 7873964
Abstract: In a multi-processor system with a high degree of inter processor communication, an operating system extension is described as a kernel function to poll a receive buffer. This is an opportunistic poll that continues to run in the user context after an application process has invoked the kernel with a blocking receive function. It is also running whenever no higher priority task is running. New data packets may be received for the present user application process while avoiding context switches, and for a different user process while avoiding interrupts. A hardware implemented delay timer and a buffer fill monitor generate interrupts when the system is not polling, thus guaranteeing a maximum latency and preventing buffer overflow, but these interrupts are largely avoided by polling when the system is handling a large amount of inter processor data traffic.

  • Patent number: 7664026
Abstract: A reliable method for inter-computer packet transport in multi-process and multi-computer environments includes acknowledgments of received packets. To enhance the reliability and fast recovery of lost packets, a bit-mapped message is used for selective acknowledgments by which individual messages may be selected for retransmission. Further functionalities cover the cases where packets may have been received out-of-order, or an acknowledgment was lost.
