  • Patent number: 6125319
Abstract: A brake system control method, comprising the steps of: determining a maximum acceleration of a vehicle on a high coefficient of adhesion road surface; measuring an acceleration of the vehicle; determining a ratio between the measured acceleration of the vehicle and the maximum acceleration of the vehicle on the high coefficient of adhesion road surface; responsive to the ratio, determining a signal indicative of present coefficient of adhesion; determining a brake actuator command responsive to the signal; and providing the brake actuator command to a brake actuator, wherein an accurate estimation of coefficient of friction between the vehicle wheels and the road surface is used in the brake system control.

    Assignee: General Motors Corporation
Inventors: Aleksander Boguslaw Hac, John Francis Hoying, Kamal Naif Majeed, Hsien Heng Chen, Joachim Busshardt
  • Patent number: 5897130
Abstract: A chassis system control method comprising the steps of measuring rotational speed of a plurality of vehicle wheels; estimating, responsive to each wheel rotational velocity, a relative velocity between the wheel and a corresponding corner of a vehicle body; determining a chassis system control command responsive to the estimations; and applying the chassis system control command to control the chassis system responsive to the estimations, wherein need for body to wheel relative position and/or relative velocity sensors is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 5707115
Abstract: In a vehicle with a first set of first and second wheels coupled to an electric drive system capable of providing regenerative braking and a second set of third and fourth wheels, wherein the vehicle dynamically adjusts a brake proportioning between the first and second sets responsive to a determined wheel speed difference between the first and second sets, the improvement comprising a regenerative braking control method according to the steps of: measuring first, second, third and fourth speeds of the first, second, third and fourth wheels; for each wheel of one of the first and second sets, determining a set-off value inversely relational to a commanded brake torque and a wheel deceleration; determining modified wheel speeds for each wheel of said one of the first and second sets responsive to the wheel speeds and the set-off values; and determining the wheel speed difference between the first and second sets responsive to the modified wheels speeds of said one of the first and second sets and the wheel sp

  • Patent number: 5696677
Abstract: A vehicle chassis system control according to the steps of: determining relative velocity between a corner of a vehicle body and a vehicle wheel responsive to a sensor signal from one of: (i) a relative position sensor mounted between the vehicle body corner and the vehicle wheel and (ii) a wheel rotational velocity sensor mounted to the wheel; estimating, responsive to the sensor signal, a body acceleration signal indicative of a vertical acceleration of the corner of the vehicle body; estimating, responsive to the sensor signal, a wheel acceleration signal indicative of a vertical acceleration of the vehicle wheel; estimating a dynamic normal force between the wheel and a road surface responsive to the estimated body and wheel accelerations; and providing the estimated normal dynamic force to a chassis system controller, wherein a chassis system actuator is controlled by a control command determined responsive to the estimated dynamic normal force.
