  • Publication number: 20040151251
Abstract: Provided are a video encoding/decoding method, in which a motion between interlaced video frames is estimated and/or compensated, and a video encoding/decoding apparatus. In this method, first, a macroblock and a search range are received, and a frame motion vector for each integer pixel is estimated. Next, if the vertical component of the estimated frame motion vector is an odd value, the bottom field pixels in the received macroblock are matched with top field pixels in a reference frame that correspond to motion vectors obtained by scaling the vertical component of the original motion vectors depending on a field-to-field distance. If the vertical component of the original frame motion vector is an even value, the top or bottom field pixels in the received macroblock are matched with the top or bottom field pixels in the reference frame that correspond to the original frame motion vector.

  • Publication number: 20040125231
Abstract: A three-dimensional de-interlacing method and apparatus for converting an interlaced scan format image into a progressive scan format image by performing low pass filtering on respective predetermined pixels of a current frame and a previous frame and determining pixel motion index values by comparing a threshold value to a difference value between the respective filtered pixels in a current field in one of the current and previous frames and corresponding respective filtered pixels in preceding and succeeding fields to the current field and in the current and previous frames. A motion mode of a pixel is determined based upon the determined motion index values of temporally and spatially adjacent pixels to the pixel. A spatial interpolation or temporal interpolation on the subjected pixel is selected depending on the determined motion mode.

  • Publication number: 20040008898
Abstract: A method and apparatus control the amount of a DCT computation performed for motion image encoding. In the DCT computation amount controlling method, first, both decoder complexity information that represents the amount of a decoding computation on previous image data and ME computation amount variation information that represents information on a variation in the amount of a motion estimation (ME) computation are received. Then, the skipping of DCT operations on current image data is controlled based on the received decoder complexity information and the received ME computation amount variation information. A computation amount allowed to a decoder may be fully used, and the computation complexity of a motion image encoder may be maintained constantly regardless of the characteristics of images.

  • Publication number: 20030219160
Abstract: In a method of adaptively encoding input image data of a motion image in accordance with a temporal complexity of the motion image, and an apparatus therefore, the temporal complexity of the input image data is calculated. Next, an original frame rate of the input image data is converted into a converted frame rate based on the calculated temporal complexity. Thereafter, the input image data whose frame rate has been converted is encoded, and the encoding data of the encoded image data is controlled so that the encoded image data has information on the converted frame rate. Accordingly, the input image data is encoded at different frame rates in accordance with the temporal complexity of the input image data. Consequently, the encoded input image data is efficiently stored.

  • Publication number: 20030169817
Abstract: A method and apparatus to encode a moving picture data for a personal video recorder (PVR) and a retrieval of a content-based picture. In the method to encode the moving picture data the moving picture data having a plurality of frames is segmented into a group of pictures (GOP) including an I frame (intrapicture), a B frame (bi-directionally predicted picture), and a P frame (predicted picture) and is encoded. A boundary between shots is extracted from the inputted video data. The method and apparatus determine whether a frame to be encoded is a first frame (boundary frame) of a next shot. The GOP is terminated in a frame (previous frame) right before a key frame, and a new GOP starts from the boundary frame when the frame to be encoded is the boundary frame.
