  • Patent number: 4889649
Abstract: A method for transmitting power which is characterized by the use of a traction drive fluid containing, as a base stock, a composition composed of 40 to 80 wt % of 2,4-dicyclohexyl-2-methylpentane and 20 to 60 wt % of a mixture of polycyclohexylalkane and a perhydroindane derivative, with the weight ratio of the perhydroindane derivative to the polycycloalkane being up to 0.5, and having a viscosity (at 100.degree. C.) of 5.0 to 15.0 cSt (10.sup.-2 cm.sup.2 /sec). This fluid has a high traction coefficient and a good oxidation stability.

  • Patent number: 4755275
Abstract: A process for preparing an electrical insulating oil comprising a reaction product having a boiling range of higher than 260.degree. C. obtained by treating a hydrocarbn feed at a reaction temperature in the range of 0.degree. to 300.degree. C. in liquid phase in the presence of an acid catalyst, said hydrocarbon feed comprising a distillate from a thermal-cracked oil obtained in a thermal cracking process for thermally cracking a petrolic heavy residual oil at a temperature not lower than 400.degree. C. and not exceeding 700.degree. C., said distillate consisting mainly of hydrocarbons boiling in the range of 120.degree. to 290.degree. C. and said distillate containing at least 30 weight percent of paraffins and at least 10 weight percent of aliphatic olefins, and separating said reaction product from the resulting mixture containing at least said reaction product and unreacted hydrocarbons.

  • Patent number: 4735703
Abstract: Concentrations of straight chain material are material are increased by treating a thermal-cracked oil distillate boiling in the range of 120.degree. to 290.degree. C. and containing aliphatic olefins, at a temperature of 0.degree. to 330.degree. C. in liquid phase in the presence of an acid catalyst, said thermal-cracked oil distillate being obtained from a thermal cracking process of thermally cracking a petrolic heavy residual oil at a temperature not lower than 400.degree. C. and not exceeding 700.degree. C.; and then separating and removing from the reaction mixture heavy components boiling higher than said distillate.

  • Patent number: 4692270
Abstract: A surfactant is obtained by treating a mixture of 20 to 95 wt. % of a thermal cracking oil fraction obtained by thermally cracking a petroleum heavy residual oil at 400.degree. to 700.degree. C., for example, by delayed coking and 80 to 5 wt. % of other aromatic source, for example, an aromatic fraction having a comparatively high boiling point with an acid catalyst, and sulfonating and neutralizing the product. This surfactant is used as a dispersing agent for a coal-oil mixture (COM).

  • Patent number: 4514229
Abstract: An paper sizing composition which is suitable for use in neutral to alkaline paper making processes, which produces excellent sizing effect and which is well dispersed in water. Both the sizing effect and dispersion stability of the prepared sizing medium are durable. The paper sizing composition comprises: 20 to 90% by weight of (A) a reaction product and/or its hydrogenation product which reaction product is obtained by adding maleic anhydride to branched internal olefins having 14 to 36 carbon atoms which are obtained by oligomerizing one or a mixture of olefin starting materials having 6 to 18 carbon atoms and 10 to 80% by weight of (B) another reaction product and/or its hydrogenation product which reaction product is obtained by reacting maleic anhydride with straight chain internal olefins having 14 to 36 carbon atoms.
