  • Patent number: 7978643
Abstract: A user terminal of a radio system arranged to operate a frequency band subdivided into one or more carrier bands, each of which carries a cyclic set of consecutive time slot. The user terminal comprises a first receiver part adjustable to a defined carrier band, and a second receiver part adjustable to a defined carrier band; wherein the first and the second receiver parts are separately operable. The user terminal comprises also allocation means for allocating to a radio channel at least a first timeslot and a second timeslot, wherein the first timeslot and the second timeslot may belong to different carrier bands. The first receiver part and the second receiver part are adjusted to the carrier bands of the first timeslot and of the second timeslot according to a predetermined scheme. The invented structure improved data throughput of the transmission by providing improved quality of transmission through diversity and added capacity through the multicarrier operation.

  • Patent number: 7885318
Abstract: A method, mobile device, network device, system, and software are devised for soft value scaling with a single antenna interference cancellation (SAIC) receiver, or with an interference rejection combining (IRC) receiver, in an unsynchronized network. A signal is received having interference that is caused by a non-synchronized network. A desired power level of that signal is calculated. Then the desired power is compared to a total power of the signal, in order to identify a portion of a received burst having substantial interference. Then that portion of the received burst is weighted, to reduce its importance during decoding.

  • Patent number: 7808964
Abstract: The specification and drawings present a new method, system, apparatus and software product for using a new modified dual symbol rate (MDSR) in an uplink direction in mobile communication systems. The communication between the mobile station and the network element may be performed within evolved GSM/EDGE radio access networks. The MDSR can be for example one and a half times a symbol rate of an uplink speech service, e.g., the current GSM/EDGE symbol rate (13/48 MHz) in the mobile communication system, thus the MDSR may be substantially 13/32 MHz or about 405 kHz. The uplink signal with the MDSR may be modulated, e.g., using a quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM), e.g., 16-QAM with 16 states and/or a quadrature phase-shift keying (QPSK, or ?/4-QPSK) modulation.

  • Patent number: 7734049
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for transmitting data between a GRPS/EDGE radio access network and user equipment of a mobile system, and to user equipment using the method, and to GERAN. In the method, the data to be transmitted is encrypted using an encryption algorithm at the transmitting end, the encrypted data is transmitted from the transmitting end to the receiving end, and the transmitted data is decrypted using an encryption algorithm at the receiving end. The used encryption algorithm is an encryption algorithm of the radio access network UTRAN employing the wideband code division multiple access method of the universal mobile telecommunications system, in which case the input parameters of agreed format required by the encryption algorithm are created on the basis of the operating parameters of the GPRS/EDGE radio access network GERAN.

  • Patent number: 7509145
Abstract: A transmission method and a base transceiver station applying antenna hopping between at least two antenna elements are provided. According to one embodiment of the invention, a carrier carrying a first signal and a second signal is transmitted. At least a portion of the first signal is subjected to a measurement for adjusting receive characteristics of a mobile station for the reception of at least a portion of the second signal. Antenna hopping is applied to the carrier such that the at least a portion of the first signal and the at least a portion of the second signal are transmitted during an interval between two consecutive antenna hops between the at least two antenna elements.

  • Patent number: 7408916
Abstract: The invention concerns a method for synchronising clocks of base transceiver stations in a telecommunications system and a mobile communications system. According to the invention, in either some or in all base station sites of the telecommunications network a location measurement unit is installed, which receives an accurate clock including an extra-system signal. The clock information is transmitted further to base transceiver stations, whose frame transmissions are synchronised in accordance with the clock information. By using the implementation in accordance with the invention both economic and functional advantages are achieved, e.g. the capacity can be increased by up to 50-300%, depending on the manner of implementation.
