  • Publication number: 20070002812
Abstract: Several mobile station identifiers are allocated to one mobile station, one for each of a plurality of possible signalling channel structures, parameters, or both. When receiving the signalling channels, the mobile station searches for all identifiers allocated for it in the received signalling channels. When it finds one that matches, it may for instance check a mapping table (agreed at the connection setup between mobile station and the network by RRC signalling) to determine what this identifier means. The signalling channel structure, parameters, or both, used in the transmission may be implicitly or explicitly indicated by the identifier. The mobile station (User Equipment) should monitor the signalling channels in the normal way. Instead of looking for only one identifier, however, the mobile station should monitor several identifiers belonging to it.

  • Publication number: 20040147263
Abstract: An inter-frequency handover of a UE connection is performed in which the frequency of the uplink connection from the UE to a base station remains the same and the frequency of the downlink connection from the base station to the UE changes from a first downlink frequency to a second downlink frequency. A request for the handover is transmitted from the base station. The request containing information indicating the second downlink frequency and information indicating that the uplink frequency remains the same. In response to the request, the physical layer of the uplink connection is maintained while changing the downlink frequency from the first downlink frequency to the second downlink frequency.

  • Publication number: 20040047312
Abstract: A method and system for uplink interference avoidance that includes a network device and mobile device in a communications network. A signal characteristic of a downlink channel currently not used by the mobile device is measured to determine if the signal characteristic has increased or decreased. The signal characteristic increase or decrease is reported to the network device. The signal characteristic may be, for example, signal quality or signal strength. The interference may be, for example, adjacent channel leakage power ratio (ACLR) interference. A handover from the downlink channel currently used by the mobile device is launched thus avoiding interference in an uplink channel not currently used by the mobile device. An inter-frequency handover or an inter-system handover may be launched.

  • Publication number: 20040022217
Abstract: A method and system for soft handover area detection for uplink interference avoidance that includes a network device and mobile device in a communications network. A trigger criteria threshold is determined for the mobile device. The mobile device is using a downlink carrier. If a trigger criteria has risen above or fallen below the trigger criteria threshold, inter-frequency measurements of co-sited cells are performed and compared to determine if a soft handover area exists. Co-sited cells are searched for downlink carriers and reselection is initiated from the downlink carrier to a co-sited cell downlink carrier if the co-sited cell downlink carrier is useable by the mobile device. Reselection is initiated from the downlink carrier to a non co-sited cell downlink carrier if no co-sited cell downlink carrier useable by the mobile device is found. The system provides for reselection while uplink carrier interference is avoided.

  • Patent number: 6269126
Abstract: Provided is a method and system for a radio system including at least one base station and terminal equipment including a receiver and a transmitter. The transmitter is structured and arranged to independently adjust a symbol rate of at least two signals and combine the two signals after adjusting the symbol rate. The transmitter then transmits the combined signal along one physical path. By adjusting the signal rate before combining the two signals, the transmitter optimizes the signal qualities of each of the signals.

  • Patent number: 6031827
Abstract: In order to control the use of physical radio resources, the physical radio resources are divided into chronologically consecutive frames (14), so that a frame contains slots (16, 17, 18) of various sizes, which slots represent a given share of the physical radio resources contained in the frame and can be individually allocated to different radio connections. The first dimension of a frame is time and the second dimension can be time, frequency or code. In the direction of the second dimension the slots represent various sizes, and a given first integral number of slots of the first size can be modularly replaced by another integral number of slots of another size. A certain number of consecutive frames form a superframe (19), in which case frames with corresponding locations in consecutive superframes are equal in slot division and allocations, if the data transmission demands do not change. Changes in the state of occupancy of the slots are possible at each superframe.

Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method in a cellular communications system comprising in each cell at least one base station communicating with mobile stations within its coverage area, in which method extra known reference information is added to a transmit signal. To enable smooth estimation of a channel, the amount of added reference information per time unit is varied in response to the radio channel parameters. The invention also relates to a transmitter having means for encoding (41), interleaving (41) and modulating (48) the transmit signal. The transmitter of the invention comprises means (42) for combining known reference symbols with the transmit signal and means (45) for controlling the combination. The invention further relates to a receiver having means for demodulating (51) and decoding (61) a received signal and means (51) for deinterleaving the signal.

  • Patent number: 5754541
Abstract: A base station, subscriber terminal, and data transmission method in a CDMA cellular radio network having in each cell at least one base station which communicates on a specified traffic channel with the terminal equipments (Mobile Station) located within its area, the signal of the users being divided in the method into bursts in the time domain. To achieve high traffic capacity together with high-quality connections, the base station monitors the load state of the traffic channel in the data transmission method of the invention and transmits information about the load state of the traffic channel to the terminal equipments. In the method, the number of the bursts transmitted between the terminal equipments and the base stations per time unit is controlled on the basis of the delay state of the bursts and the load state information computed at the base station.

  • Patent number: 5570353
Abstract: The invention relates to a data transmission method in a CDMA cellular radio system, which comprises in each cell at least one base station (10) communicating with mobile stations (11, 12) within its coverage area and in which system the base station adjusts the transmitting power of the mobile stations within its area by means of power control massages. To enable coherent detection at the base station, according to the method the transmission on the traffic channel is performed both in the transmission direction from the mobile station to the base station and from the base station to the mobile station by using a similar frame structure. When the base station transmits a power control message to the mobile station by using bits of the frame structure of the traffic channel, the mobile station transmits a predetermined bit pattern to the base station in the corresponding bits of the other transmission direction of the traffic channel.
