Patent number: 5679122Abstract: The flexible filter element (12) of the filter (10) is pleated in a zig-zag-shaped configuration and has its longitudinal edges (24) connected to support elements (26). Each of the support elements (26) comprises a plurality of support members (40) arranged beside one another and being interconnected by a continuous flange (28). The support elements (26) as well as the rest of the filter element (12) are made of a plastic material. The strength of the flanges (28) is selected in such a manner that the support members (40) are flexible relative to each other which is possible by elastic or plastic deformation of the support elements (26) in the region of the flanges (28), particularly in that region of the flanges (28) wherein these flanges connect adjacent support members (40). The filter (10) can be produced as a filter element (12) extending in a linear plane, which, because of its flexibility, can be deformed while being mounted and/or remain deformed in its mounted condition.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 1996Date of Patent: October 21, 1997Assignee: Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Karl-Andreas Moll, Johannes Josef Meyers, Nicolaas Berend Westerhof

Patent number: 5192385Abstract: The invention relates to a process and to apparatus for the defined dispensing and application to a substrate surface of sections having equal and/or unequal lengths of a tape, particularly of a pressure-sensitive or thermally activatable adhesive tape, to a substrate surface. To this end, the tape is continuously adhesively affixed to the surface. Starting at an initial placement position; before the leading edge (in the direction of application) of the tape section is secured, it is severed partly, leaving at least one web of material, at a predetermined distance from the trailing edge thereof by a specially configured cutting mechanism. After the subsequent adhesive placement of the entire tape section on said surface, the tape is separated at said at least one web of material by utilizing a braking effect as the tape or the tape dispensing and applying apparatus continues to move relative to the surface.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1992Date of Patent: March 9, 1993Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: Karl-Andreas Moll

Patent number: 4905888Abstract: The invention concerns itself with a process for providing a package, especially a parallelepiped form like a carton with a holding device or handle which is attached to the wall of the package so that it can be transported. According to the invention a handle is provided which is integrated into package wall, the shape of the handle being defined by a perforated tear line in the wall. The handle is attached to the wall by means of a carrying tape attached to the inner surface of the wall and the inner surface of the handle, the carrying tape being such that free-moving, strap-type, foldable tape sections are formed between the end section attached to the inner surface of the wall and the middle section of the carrying tape attached to the handle. The strap-type tape sections have a layer which covers their adhesive coating or their adhesive has been neutralized and they form, in conjunction with the handle and when the handle is separated from the package, a freely-moving carrying loop on the package.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 1989Date of Patent: March 6, 1990Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventors: Bernardus M.
