  • Patent number: 4689851
Abstract: The elastic hinge comprises a box (9) solid with the temple (1) of the eyeglasses, this box containing a part (8) carrying a knuckle (6) and sliding in the box (9) against the action of a spring (11). This spring receives stationary support against a part (12) which is made solid with the box (9) by a ball (14) engaged in a hole (15) of this ball and in a recess (16) of the box. The ball is held in position by a screw (17) which is accessible only in the folded position of the temple.

  • Patent number: 4456346
Abstract: The spectacle hinge comprises two parts (3) and (4) in order to insure pivoting of the arm (1) on the frame (2). An intermediate part (5) is fixed on the part (3) by means of a screw (6) and includes a portion (11) forming a cam for engagement with an elastic element (12) of the part (4). The part (4) is pivoted on the part (5) by a screw 10' passing through a hole (10). By removing the intermediate part (5) a standard hinge can be pivotally connected to part (3) in order to provide a standard hinge, that is one which does not utilize elastic means.

  • Patent number: 4256388
Abstract: The invention relates to a bearing screw including a cylindrical shank and a screw threaded end portion in which at least part of the shank has a diameter which is less than the over-all diameter of the threaded end portion and this part of the shank is provided with a sleeve of synthetic resin. The part of the shank which carries the sleeve preferably has a diameter which is substantially equal to the root diameter of the threaded end portion while the maximum diameter of the sleeve is preferably substantially equal to the over-all diameter of the threaded end portion. The invention also relates to a spectacle frame hinge in which a bearing screw having a sleeve of synthetic resin arranged on its shank is used as a hinge pin. In such arrangement the threaded end portion of the screw is screwed into a threaded hole formed in an outer ear of the interfitting ears of the hinge knuckles while the shank of the screw with the sleeve thereon passes through plain holes in the other ears.

  • Patent number: 4244081
Abstract: A hinge for spectacles consists of two parts one of which one has a cam surface while the other part comprises a blind cylindrical housing in which are arranged at least one spring and one ball bearing, with the spring pushing the ball bearing against the cam surface. To avoid excessive wear of the cam surface and to facilitate the dismantling of the hinge, the hinge includes an intermediate part located in the housing between the ball bearing and the spring. The intermediate part provides less friction with the ball bearing than the friction between that ball bearing and the cam surface. The housing is provided with devices for retaining its contents which devices reduce the open cross section of the opening of the housing.
