  • Patent number: 4760046
Abstract: Activated carbon is produced by an improved process which comprises subjecting a mash comprising carbon-containing combustibles, phosphoric acid and water to a rapid thermal pretreatment at temperatures of from 80.degree. to 250.degree. C. in the presence of steam and oxygen followed by activation at temperatures of from 250.degree. to 550.degree. C. for no more than 30 minutes.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 10, 1987
Date of Patent: July 26, 1988
    Assignee: Bayer Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Alex Burger, Karl-Friedrich Thom, Peter Schmidt
  • Patent number: 4102940
Abstract: In the preparation and working up of a SiOC-linked polysiloxane/polycarbonate copolymer comprising reacting an .alpha.,.omega.-dihalogenopolysiloxane with an .alpha.,.omega.-dihydroxy-oligocarbonate in the presence of a tertiary amine and a solvent, and subsequently separating off the resulting copolymer from the reaction mixture additionally containing the amine, amine hydrochloride and organic solvent, the improvement which comprises subjecting the reaction mixture to steam distillation whereby the copolymer remains behind. Advantageously, the copolymer reaction solution is added to an aqueous solution having a pH of 7 to 8 whereby the amine and hydrogen chloride also distill over. If a surface active agent is present in the aqueous solution the product will be of very fine particle size.

  • Patent number: 4101514
Abstract: The disclosed curing agents or initiators have the formula ML.sub.n (O-SO.sub.2 -R.sub.f).sub.m wherein L is an imidazole, M is a metal, n is a coordination number of M, R.sub.f is a fluorinated alkyl group, and m is the valence of M. These curing agents are useful in latent curable epoxy systems. Upon heating to the cure temperature (e.g. 100.degree. - 250.degree. C.), such systems cure efficiently and with a low exotherm.

  • Patent number: 4076763
Abstract: An organopolysiloxane/polycarbodiimide copolymer comprising optionally repeating structural units of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is an alkyl, alkenyl or aryl radical with up to 12 carbon atoms,R.sup.1 is an alkyl radical with up to 4 carbon atoms,R.sup.2 is a divalent hydrocarbon radical with up to 6 carbon atoms,X is oxygen or the group ##STR2## R.sup.3 is hydrogen or an alkyl, aryl, aralkyl or cycloalkyl radical with up to 8 carbon atoms,A is a divalent aromatic radical with up to about 40 carbon atoms,n is an integer from 0 to about 10,000,z is an integer from 1 to about 1500Is produced by reacting a stoichiometric excess of a diisocyanate of the formula A(NCO).sub.2 with at least one member selected from the group consisting of an .alpha.,.omega.-diaminoalkylpolysiloxane of the formula ##STR3## and an .alpha.,.omega.-dihydroxypolysiloxane of the formula ##STR4## in the presence of a carbodiimidization catalyst.

    Inventors: Karl-Friedrich Thom, Reinhard Schliebs
  • Patent number: 4073801
Abstract: A chlorosilane or partial hydrolysis product thereof is reacted with a siloxane and stable polymeric products of comparatively high molecular weight or high chlorine content are produced by effecting the reaction in the presence of a siloxane protonic acid equilibration catalyst in combination with a hydrogen halide acid. The hydrogen halide acid may be produced in situ. Representative protic acid equilibration catalysts include sulfuric acid, oleum, polysulfuric acids, sulfonic acids including aromatic, alkyl and perfluoroalkyl sulfonic acids, and polysulfonic acids.

  • Patent number: 3993678
Abstract: The disclosed compounds are adducts of imidazole or derivatives thereof and sulfur dioxide. The adducts are apparently of the Lewis acid-Lewis base type, and are useful as latent curing agents for epoxide resins. The adducts are prepared by interacting the imidazole and sulfur dioxide under anhydrous conditions. Equimolar imidazole--SO.sub.2 adducts can serve as a source of sulfur dioxide at room temperature.
