Patent number: 6522961Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and device for determining the driving condition of a vehicle, especially in the event of failure or absence of a speed sensor. For this purpose, the spring travels between a vehicle body and vehicle axles are continuously sampled. From the measured spring-travel values, the mean values or the sums are formed for each vehicle axle. From these mean values or sums, the number of local extrema within a predefinable observation period is determined. Thereafter, the frequency of the local extrema and thus the frequency of the vertical relative motion between vehicle body and vehicle axle are determined.
