  • Patent number: 9771913
Abstract: In a method for actuating a starting device for an internal combustion engine, for the case in which the rotational speed of the toothed ring is below a limit value, first a stroke armature in a starter relay is moved and an electric starter motor is switched on after the starter pinion has engaged. If the rotational speed of the toothed ring exceeds the limit value, the starter motor is switched on before the starter pinion contacts the toothed ring.

  • Patent number: 8881704
Abstract: In a method of a start-stop control for an internal combustion engine including briefly stopping and starting the internal combustion engine using an electric machine as a starter, the internal combustion engine is switched off by an engine control when switch-off conditions obtain, and the start-stop control queries whether a start signal exists on the basis of switch-on conditions. In order to ensure that a restart of the internal combustion engine is able to be performed more quickly, the start-stop control acts on the internal combustion engine using an operating strategy within a time period t until the internal combustion engine comes to a standstill.

  • Patent number: 8813707
Abstract: A method for meshing a starting pinion of a starter device with a toothed ring of an internal combustion engine includes aligning rotational speed of the starting pinion with the rotational speed of the toothed ring before meshing takes place. As meshing occurs, a vibration characteristic is measured. If a vibration characteristic variable is not within an admissible value range, activation of the starting pinion is varied during a subsequent meshing process.

  • Publication number: 20120204826
Abstract: In a method for meshing a starting pinion of a starter device with a toothed ring of an internal combustion engine, during the engagement process, characteristic vibrations are measured in the internal combustion engine, wherein in the event of a vibration parameter lying outside an admissible value range, the actuation of the starting pinion is varied.

  • Publication number: 20120173129
Abstract: In a method for operating a starter device having a starter motor for starting an internal combustion engine, the starter motor is switched on and off via a starter controller having a switching relay when the starter motor is acted on by electrical power from an electrical energy store. • Publication number: 20110184626
Abstract: In a method of control for a start-stop operation of an internal combustion engine in a motor vehicle for briefly stopping and starting the internal combustion engine, which is started by an electric machine as starter, a detection device detects the position and the rotational speed of a crankshaft following the switch-off of the internal combustion engine. The curve of the rotational speed of the crankshaft following the switch-off of the internal combustion engine is actively and instantaneously calculated in advance.

  • Publication number: 20090020091
Abstract: The invention relates to a starter device (10) for internal combustion engines (15) in motor vehicles with a controller (19), a starter relay (12), a starter pinion (13) and a starter motor (11), whereby on each start/stop process in the stop phase (first step) the starter relay engages the starter pinion in the toothed ring (14) of the engine and in the start phase (second step) the engine is turned over by the starter motor. According to the invention, the starter pinion (13) may be engaged as quietly as possible for a subsequent starting process on switching off the engine (10) and held in position until starting, whereby, in the first step of the starting process, the armature (28) of the starter relay (12) is withdrawn with reduced force to a position with open switch contact (18) and held there until the start of the second step, whereupon the armature (28) closes the switch contact (18) of the starter motor with full force.

  • Patent number: 6661195
Abstract: A starting motor for an internal combustion engine, where a control circuit monitors or controls the temperature of the starting motor or the carbon brushes, and if necessary, limits or switches off the primary current. The temperature is indirectly determined by means of a comparison, using the voltage ripple in the primary circuit between the battery and the starting motor. Occurring errors can be stored as status messages in an error storage device, and if desired, they can be interrogated and corrected at the next service interval.
