  • Patent number: 7951493
Abstract: A process for preparing a food composition by mixing a nutritive base with at least one long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid; cooking the resulting mixture at a temperature not less than about 50° C.; adding to the food composition at least one oxidatively protected long chain polyunsaturated fatty acid; and packaging the resulting composition in an oxygen depleted environment within a sealed container to provide the food product that exhibits (1) acceptable palatability to an animal and (2) a shelf-life of at least about 6 months when stored at ambient temperature without opening the container.

  • Publication number: 20090171341
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for safely performing electrosurgery on a patient by evenly distributing electric current density at a return electrode unit having a plurality of concentric return electrodes. In an embodiment, each electrode may be independently coupled to a passive electrical element, and each of the passive electrical elements may have a different value of capacitance, resistance or inductance, according to the configuration of the concentric return electrodes, to provide the even distribution of electric current density between the plurality of concentric return electrodes of the return electrode unit.

  • Publication number: 20080312651
Abstract: Methods and apparatus for selectively heating a target tissue via radiofrequency (RF) electrical energy. Apparatus of the invention includes an electrode unit having a plurality of concentric electrodes, wherein supply of electrical energy to each electrode may be independently controlled such that each of the plurality of electrodes has a different value of an electrical parameter for tissue treatment. Methods for selectively heating and treating tissue, for detecting thickness of tissue, and for determining a treatment value of an electrical parameter for each of a plurality of electrodes of an electrode unit are also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20080287943
Abstract: Treatment apparatus and methods for inducing microburn patterns in tissue. The treatment apparatus comprises a delivery device positionable adjacent to the tissue and a plurality of energy-transfer elements. The energy-transfer elements are adapted to contact the skin surface over discrete surface contact areas and transfer energy to the tissue for forming damaged regions in the form of microburns at a corresponding plurality of locations in the tissue. Energy may be transferred between the energy-transfer elements and the tissue by either electrical conduction or thermal conduction. Adjacent microburns are separated by non-damaged regions, which promotes wound healing and efficacy.

  • Publication number: 20070078502
Abstract: Method and apparatus for determining local impedance factors in an electromagnetic energy system for treating patients is disclosed. Respective measurement signals are sent through a patient treatment zone and a local impedance factor is estimated based upon the measurement signals. The estimated impedance factor is used to determine appropriate therapeutic levels of energy for patient treatment.

  • Publication number: 20060166576
Abstract: The three-degree of freedom fin apparatus and method described herein is for use on a watercraft (such as a surfboard) and allows adjustment of up to three degrees of freedom, including a translational degree of freedom along a longitudinal axis of the fin structure in the fore and aft direction (longitudinal translation or pitch), a first rotational degree of freedom about the longitudinal axis (roll), and a second rotational degree of freedom about a vertical axis centered at a point on the fin (yaw). Pitch adjustment is made by sliding a base plate and fin assembly along the longitudinal axis. Yaw adjustment is made by moving a front portion of the fin assembly about a yaw pivot point and the rear portion along a yaw track in the base plate. A roll adjustment is made by rotating a fin unit of the fin assembly about the longitudinal axis.

  • Publication number: 20030220635
Abstract: A method for treating a tissue site couples an energy delivery surface of an electromagnetic energy delivery device with a skin surface. An underlying tissue area beneath the skin surface is created. The cooling creates a reverse thermal gradient, where a temperature of the skin surface is less than a temperature of the underlying tissue area. Energy is delivered from the energy delivery device to the underlying tissue area. The energy delivery modifies the underlying tissue area and decreases irregularities of the skin surface.
