  • Patent number: 5988557
Abstract: For winding up of a paper web to form a paper roll, a first reel spool is accelerated to the speed of the web and brought into a first, start-of-winding position in which it forms a nip with a driveable press drum. The beginning of the web of paper is guided around the press drum and is wound onto the first reel spool. When a first layer thickness has been wound, the first reel spool is transferred into a second, complete-winding position and the paper roll is wound up there to its desired layer thickness. During the entire winding process, the press drum or a special press roll are pressed against the winding surface of the developing paper roll, a torque is introduced into the axis of the first reel spool by means of a central drive and the press drum and/or press roll and the first reel spool with the developing paper roll thereon are displaced, preferably exclusively horizontally, without substantial changes in the direction or orientation of those elements.

  • Patent number: 5915648
Abstract: A drum for guiding a material web, in particular a paper web. The drum has a jacket and a hollow interior. A respective cover at each end of the jacket. A respective bearing journal at each cover for supporting the roll to rotate. The jacket has a plurality of passage openings for passage of air therethrough. At least one and perhaps two impellers inside the interior of the drum, each having a suction side for drawing air into the drum through the passage openings. A pressure side at the other side of the impeller. Air exits the drum from the pressure side of the impeller through passage openings and/or an opening in a cover.

  • Patent number: 5895007
Abstract: A method and device for winding a paper web to form a reel. The web is wound onto a shell that is predominantly centrally driven to introduce a torque that winds the web on the shell into a reel. A pressure element extends over the width of the web and acts continuously on the outer surface of the reel being wound in order to squeeze out air. A web threading roll comes adjacent the shell during web threading. Once the web is threaded, the shell is moved generally horizontally from the web threading toward the main winding position where the web is wound. A compensation device supports the reel being wound. The first pressure element in contact with the reel may move away, and a second pressure element closer to the compensation device may press upon the reel, after the first pressure element has moved away.

  • Patent number: 5690298
Abstract: A Pope reel for winding a running paper web into a paper roll on a paper machine. The web is wound on a webwide king roll, which web wraps around the king roll on part of its circumference. A magazine holds a number of winding drums, each of which serves as a winding core. A pair of swivel levers pick up an individual winding drum and transfer it into its winding start position on the king roll. The winding drum with the paper roll being wound migrates along a guideway, and moves away from the king roll up to a delivery position for the finished paper roll. A second king roll is provided, which king roll is powered and is forceable down on the paper roll.

  • Patent number: 5655730
Abstract: A paper machine carrier drum apparatus includes a drivable carrier drum and a cylinder disposed adjacent the carrier drum. The cylinder is disposed parallel to an axis of the carrier drum and can be swiveled about a peripheral region of the drum. The apparatus also includes a guide roll disposed upstream of the carrier drum with respect to a direction of travel of a paper web through the apparatus and a pressure roll disposed adjacent to the drum and adjustably pressable thereagainst. The pressure roll can be moved to a number of positions about a periphery of the drum.

  • Patent number: 5261620
Abstract: A winder for winding a running web of paper, foil or similar. A support drum of web width is provided, and a winding drum on which the web is wound to a roll. A pair of primary swivel levers each feature on one end a fork for receiving a winding drum bearing and is mounted with its other end in the region of the support roll axis in such a way that the winding drum, in swiveling from a first position above the support roll, will in the running direction of the web approach the support roll while moving around it, passing in the process a primary section until reaching a second position. The winding drum with the still unfinished paper roll is taken over by a pair of secondary swivel levers with an essentially horizontal guideway extending from the second position across a secondary section up to a third position. A contact device forces the winding drum onto the support roll, and a drive is coordinated with the winding drum.
