Patent number: 5300043Abstract: A closed system suction catheter assembly has a valve which controls suction applied at the patient end of the assembly. The valve has a pinch tube connected in line with the catheter and secured at each end to the housing of the valve. An occluder bar midway along a pivoted lever is urged up by a spring to pinch the tube closed against a fixed occluder and close the valve. The valve has a button protected by a rotatable guard which bears on an end of the lever so that the valve can be opened by pressing down on the button. A snap mechanism engages the occluder lever.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1992Date of Patent: April 5, 1994Assignee: Smiths Industries Medical Systems, Inc.Inventors: Thomas Devlin, Victor Cheung, Karl Ulrich

Patent number: 5254098Abstract: A closed system suction catheter assembly has a catheter that is protected along its length by a flexible sleeve. The catheter extends through a patient connecting member by which the assembly is connected to a tracheal tube. Within the connecting member there is a sliding seal support with a groove in which is located a rib that extends along the outside of the catheter. The rib follows a sinusoidal path so that the catheter is twisted backwards and forwards as the catheter is pushed or pulled through the patient connecting member.Type: GrantFiled: February 16, 1993Date of Patent: October 19, 1993Assignee: Smiths Industries Medical Systems, Inc.Inventors: Karl Ulrich, Tom Devlin

Patent number: 5200703Abstract: An anti-interference filter for radio-shielding a feeder to a gradient coil in a nuclear magnetic resonance imaging apparatus is constructed as a band elimination (band rejection) filter for the operating frequency of the nuclear magnetic resonance imaging apparatus. The anti-interference filter can be in the form of a directionally symmetrical quadrupole having two input terminals and two output terminals. A first input terminal and a first output terminal are introducible into the feeder to the gradient coil, and a second input terminal and a second output terminal are connected to a conductor at reference potential. A number of blocking circuits are arranged in series between the first input terminal and the first output terminal. A number acceptor circuits are arranged between the input terminals, between the junctions of the blocking circuits and the reference potential conductor, and between the output terminals. The number of acceptor circuits is one more than the number of blocking circuits.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 1991Date of Patent: April 6, 1993Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventors: Walter Popp, Karl-Ulrich Erlenkamp, Peter Feld, Norbert Rietsch, Markus Vester

Patent number: 5167556Abstract: A method for manufacturing an LED display means, whereby a plurality of LED chips are arranged on a system carrier composed of interconnects and the LED chips are individually respectively embedded in a light-guiding channel composed of a transparent plastic allocated thereto and having a light exit window. The method enables the realization of surface-mountable LED displays that can be flow-soldered. The specifically designed system carrier is equipped with sealing and supporting webs and those locations provided with the LED chips are enveloped with a diffusely scattering, transparent plastic for the formation of mutually separated light-guiding channels. After solidification of the plastic, the sealing and supporting webs in the inside of the system carrier are removed in a first punch-free process and the light-guiding channels and the inside regions of the system carriers surrounding light-guiding channels are then provided with a reflective envelope.Type: GrantFiled: June 5, 1991Date of Patent: December 1, 1992Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventor: Karl-Ulrich Stein

Patent number: 4412741Abstract: In the exemplary embodiments, two line-shaped images of a scene are imaged onto two line sensors. The output signals of these line sensors are stored in successive stages of respective shift registers, whereby the distance measurement ensues by means of sequential examination of the correlation of the image element signals as stored by the shift registers. For the correlation examination, a predetermined set of stages of each shift register are read out in parallel for comparison. The image element signals are then alternately shifted in the respective shift registers followed by further parallel readout and comparison steps to locate the segments of the two line sensors having a maximum correlation.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 1981Date of Patent: November 1, 1983Assignee: Siemens AktiengesellschaftInventor: Karl-Ulrich Stein
