  • Patent number: 6265481
Abstract: The invention relates to a printing ink which consists of pigments, an alkyd resin binder modified with fatty acids having an iodine number from 120 to 280 (g of I2/100 g), a phenolic resin-modified rosin binder and, if appropriate, further binders and further conventional constituents, such as lubricants, solvents, thickeners and thixotropic agents. The alkyd resin binder and the phenolic resin-modified rosin binder are present in proportions from 10 to 40% by weight and 60 to 90% by weight respectively, their sum giving 100% by weight. The alkyd resin has an acid number of Less than 11 and a hydroxyl number from 40 to 260 and has been prepared by reacting a) an unsaturated fatty acid having 6 to 20 carbon atoms or a mixture of such acids or their triglycerides with b) a polyol and c) a dicarboxylic acid.

  • Patent number: 5902391
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for preparing an offset printing ink or concentrate thereof from the individual components on which the printing ink is based, which involves combining the individual solid and liquid components in a mixer and processing them directly therein to form the offset-printing ink or concentrate.

  • Patent number: 5508320
Abstract: A printing ink based on mineral oil contains, as a binder, a mixture ofA) from 10 to 50% by weight of an alkyd resin having a hydroxyl number of from 40 to 260 and an acid number of from 10 to 70 andB) from 50 to 90% by weight of a reaction product of rosin and a phenol/formaldehyde condensate. The printing inks are used in the sheet offset printing process.

  • Patent number: 4627876
Abstract: The invention relates to a printing ink which is to be used for printing paper and which consists of pigment, an alkyd resin binder which has been modified with fatty acids having an iodine number below 20, and, if desired, further binder and further customary constituents, such as lubricants, solvents, thickeners and thixotropic agents. The alkyd resin is an epoxy alkyd resin having an acid number below 11 and is present in the printing ink in an amount of at least 40% by weight, based on the total binder content. It has been prepared by reacting(a) a fatty acid of 6-20 carbon atoms or a mixture of such acids or triglycerides thereof,(b) a polyol,(c) an epoxy resin having a molecular weight of 380-2,900, an epoxide equivalent weight of 175 to 2,050 and an ester equivalent weight of 80 to 200 and(d) a dicarboxylic acid, the proportion of the epoxy resin amounting to 1 to 40 mole %, based on the total amount of polyol and epoxy resin.
