  • Patent number: 9731458
Abstract: A lens mold carrier (1; 2) comprises: a frame (10; 20) extending in a plane (x,y; u,v) and comprising a plurality of individual compartments (100; 200); at least one mold unit (11; 21) arranged in one of the individual compartments (100; 200) in a manner secured against falling out, the at least one mold unit (11; 21) including an adapter piece (110; 210) and a lens mold (112; 212) fixedly connected to the adapter piece (110; 210). The adapter piece (110; 210) is floatingly arranged within the compartment (100; 200) to allow for limited movement of the adapter piece (110; 210) within the compartment (100; 200) at least in a translation plane parallel to or coincident with the plane (x,y; u,v) in which the frame (10; 20) extends.

  • Publication number: 20170050344
Abstract: There are described a method for applying a coating to a surface of an ophthalmic lens mold. The mold includes male and female (20) mold halves, with each of the mold halves being provided with a lens forming surface (21). The method includes applying a temporary coating to at least a portion of at least one of the male and female mold halves (20), the temporary coating being capable of reducing adhesive forces between a lens forming material and the lens forming surface (21); and drying the temporary coating applied to the portion of the lens forming surface (21). Also described is a device (1) for applying such temporary coating to the portion of the lens forming surface (21) of the ophthalmic lens mold.

  • Patent number: 8944795
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mold half for making an ophthalmic lens, in particular a contact lens, wherein the mold half comprises a release sheet removably arranged on the mold surface of said mold half to separate a lens forming material from the mold surface, as well as to a method for applying a removable mold release sheet to said mold half. The mold half of the invention comprises a vacuum means to removably attach said release sheet to said mold surface, and preferably the mold half further comprises a pinch-off rim for forming the edge of said ophthalmic lens.

  • Patent number: 8801067
Abstract: A gripper for grasping an ophthalmic lens immersed in a liquid, for example a contact lens or soft contact lens, the gripper including a housing having an opening arranged at the distal end of the housing, the opening being in communication with an interior space defined by the housing and being sized to allow the ophthalmic lens to pass therethrough; a supply channel to generate suction in the interior space of the housing to allow the ophthalmic lens together with an amount of the liquid in which the ophthalmic lens is immersed to be sucked through the opening into the interior space of the housing; and a supply channel for generating overpressure in the interior space of the housing so as to allow the ophthalmic lens together with the amount of liquid to be released from the interior space through the opening at the distal end of the housing.

  • Publication number: 20110089585
Abstract: There is described a method for the simultaneous manufacture of contact lenses having different lens parameters on the same production line, where a number of molds, each comprising male and female mold halves, are transported in sequential rows of and in each row in side by side configuration through a series of treatment stations, which are arranged sequentially along a production line, in which lenses of specific parameters are manufactured from a lens forming material. During manufacture each lens is associated with a lens identification code. There is also described a closed cycle production line for carrying out the method.
