  • Patent number: 4003283
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a die set in which the punch holder is guided for reciprocating movement towards and away from the die shoe by two-part leader pins, with the upper leader pin portions fixed to the punch holder and the lower leader pin portions fixed to the die shoe. Tapered surfaces on the upper leader pin portions are received in ball bearing cages located within sleeves on the lower leader pin portions to guide the movement of the punch holder. The tapered leader pin portions press the bearing balls into the sleeve to provide a tight shearing fit with no tolerance which minimizes deflection of the punch holder to provide more accurate punching.

  • Patent number: 3981210
Abstract: A boring bar has a free end that extends beyond the boring tool and has a guide roller rotatably mounted on the free end about an axis which is parallel to and offset from the boring bar axis. A guide bushing is supported in concentric alignment with the free end of the boring bar and rollably engages the guide roller at a point whose radius with respect to the boring bar axis extends in the same direction as the boring tool. The boring bar is preferably necked down between its supported end and the boring tool to facilitate deflection of the boring bar in response to pressure applied to the free end thereof by the guide roller and guide bushing.

  • Patent number: 3935764
Abstract: Guide means are provided to guide a boring bar to provide a concentric opening in a work piece. The boring bar is in the form of a hollow sleeve which is guided by a separable guide pin fixed to a work table and which telescopes into the sleeve as the boring bar moves into the work piece. In one embodiment, a guide element projects inwardly into the opening in the sleeve to engage the guide pin. In another embodiment a roller bearing has a portion of its periphery projecting through a slot in the boring bar into the interior of the sleeve to engage the telescoping guide pin. Use of the hollow boring bar and the telescopic guide pin minimizes the length which otherwise would be required for a boring bar with guide means.
