  • Patent number: 7855240
Abstract: The subject invention provides an open-celled polyurethane foam formed from a polyurethane spray foam system that mixes a formulated resin component with an isocyanate component. The resultant open-celled polyurethane spray foam has a density of about ½ pound per cubic foot. The resin component includes water as a blowing agent, a first aliphatic, amine-initiated polyol having a number-average molecular weight of from 150 to 500 and having tetra-functionality, and a second polyol having terminal hydroxyl groups and having a number-average molecular weight of from 3500 to 8000. A curing component having at least one primary amine group and having a number-average molecular weight of from 150 to 5000 is also included in the resin component. The spray foam system reacts a) the resin component and b) the isocyanate component in a volumetric ratio of a) to b) of from 1:1.2 to 1:5 and having an isocyanate index of from 15 to 70.

  • Patent number: 7705063
Abstract: A polyurethane foam and a resin composition that may be used to form the polyurethane foam is provided. The resin composition comprises a first ethylene diamine-based polyol having about 100% ethylene oxide capping present in an amount of from 0.5 to 8 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the resin composition, a second polyol, and a physical blowing agent. The polyurethane foam comprises the reaction product of an isocyanate component and the resin composition. A method of forming the polyurethane foam on a substrate, comprising the steps of combining the isocyanate component, the first ethylene diamine-based polyol having about 100% ethylene oxide capping, the second polyol, and the physical blowing agent to form a polyurethane composition is also provided. The polyurethane composition is applied onto the substrate at an ambient temperature of 0° C. or lower to form the polyurethane foam.

  • Publication number: 20080199706
Abstract: A resin composition is reacted with a polyisocyanate composition to form a polyurethane elastomeric adhesive. The polyurethane elastomeric adhesive adheres a first substrate to a second substrate to form a composite article. The resin composition comprises a first isocyanate-reactive component, a catalyst component, and a chelating agent. The first isocyanate-reactive component comprises an internal block copolymer formed from an initiator and an alkylene oxide and comprises terminal isocyanate-reactive groups. The chelating agent comprises a branched polymeric amine having a weight-average molecular weight of from about 800 to about 200,000 and is present in an amount of from about 1 to about 10 parts by weight based on 100 parts by weight of the resin composition.
