  • Patent number: 5849054
Abstract: The filter for an inflator of the present invention includes a cylindrical compressed mesh unit, which is multi-folded in its substantially entire length, and the multi-folded mesh unit is provided by folding a cylindrical wire mesh knitted from a single metal wire by a predetermined length from its one or both end portions in the longitudinal direction, so as to be overlaid on the outer peripheral surface of the cylindrical wire mesh, and such a folded overlaying is repeated a plurality of times. Then, the cylindrical mesh unit thus constituted is compressed in its longitudinal direction. The above-mentioned compressed cylindrical mesh unit should have a cavity ratio of 70 to 80% in terms of cavity ratio C defined by the equation indicated below:C=(.rho.o-.rho.)/.rho.o.times.100(%).

  • Patent number: 5656245
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a catalytic converter for cleaning exhaust gas generated from automobiles or the like and more particularly to a structure for securing a catalyst carrier to a casing. In the converter, a casing for embracing, supporting and securing the catalyst carrier is provided with at least one end cover at the one end of the casing in the longitudinal direction thereof, the catalyst carrier is secured to the one end cover, but not secured to the remainder of the casing. The catalyst carrier may be secured to the end cover by sandwiching the flange portion of the catalyst carrier between the vertical step portion of the end cover and a pushing ring via buffering members. Alternatively, the catalyst carrier may be secured to the end cover by pushing a taper bushing having a wedge-shaped cross section into the space between the concave recessed portion provided on the surface of the catalyst carrier and the short pipe portion of the end cover.

  • Patent number: 5622372
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a metal seal ring suitably used at pipe connection portions in exhaust pipe systems of automobile engines for example and a method of producing the same. The metal seal ring comprises a metal ring having a pipe-shaped cross section, and a heat-resistant composite gasket material ring filling the metal ring, wherein the composite gasket material ring is formed such that a sheet of the composite gasket material, such as a mixture of heat-resistant fiber and elastomer, a having reinforcing core material, such as a wire net and a perforated steel plate, therein, is slit to obtain a rectangular strip, that both longitudinal ends of the strip are joined to each other to form a ring, and that both fringes of the strip are butt-joined to each other to form a ring having a pipe-shaped cross section.

  • Patent number: 5588657
Abstract: A laminated metal gasket used as a cylinder head gasket for an internal combustion engine, disposed between a pair of joint surfaces having at least one hole to be sealed comprising at least one intermediate plate made of a metal plate, and a pair of surface plates made of elastic metal plates, such as steel plates or stainless steel plates, laminated on both sides of the intermediate plate, the intermediate plate and the surface plates each having at least one hole portion corresponding to the hole to be sealed, the intermediate plate being equipped with a folded portion which is made by folding back the inner peripheral edge portion around the hole portion to the joint surface subjected to more significant distortion and deformation during operation among the pair of joint surfaces, and the surface plates each being equipped with a bead surrounding the hole portion outside the folded portion, the bead of the surface plate coming into contact with the joint surface to be subjected to more significant distort

  • Patent number: 4802698
Abstract: A joint has a first flange rigidly secured to the outer peripheral surface of an end portion of a first pipe and a second flange rigidly secured to the outer peripheral surface of an end portion of a second pipe. The first and second flanges are aligned with each other and joined together by nuts and bolts so that the first and second pipes are connected together and maintained in a hermetically sealed state by a closed loop-shaped sealing member clamped between the first and second flanges. The sealing member is fitted on the end portion of the second pipe which slightly projects from the second flange. The sealing member is formed by wrapping a thin metal sheet around heat resistant material and has an inner diameter which is equal to or slightly larger than the outer diameter of the second pipe. A frusto-conical surface aligned with the sealing member defines a portion of the inner peripheral surface of the first flange.
