  • Patent number: 6530360
Abstract: Electronic control apparatus including a V-type multi-cylinder internal combustion engine having right and left banks of cylinders 1a and 1b, a crank-angle detecting device 12 for a camshaft of one bank 1a and which outputs a rotational-angle signal, a cylinder determination device 14 for generating a determination signal of which cylinder is to be ignited, an intake-air volume measuring device 4 for measuring an intake-air volume, and an ECU 18 for inputting the intake-air volume, the rotational-angle signal and the cylinder determination signal to calculate a rotational speed and ignition timing. The electronic control apparatus is configured so that ECU 18 inputs the rotational-angle signal from the crank-angle detecting device 12 and predicts a signal period of the next time from a state of change in the signal period of the same bank and sets ignition timing of the next time based on this predicted result.

  • Patent number: 6170462
Abstract: An electronic control unit for an internal combustion engine is able to accurately identify cylinders even in such a case as starting an engine while the engine is still cold or with a deteriorated battery or even if the engine is started hurriedly, or hastened start is repeated. In the electronic control unit that measures the cycle of a signal issued from a crank angle sensor and identifies a cylinder according to a calculated value based on the cycle to control the internal combustion engine, the ratio of a present signal cycle and a previous signal cycle is compared with a judgment value, and cylinder identification is effected based on a time series pattern of the ratio, and the judgment value is changed on the basis of at least one of the temperature of the engine and battery voltage.

  • Patent number: 5309887
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine equipped with an exhaust gas recirculation control system including an exhaust gas recirculation passage connected to an exhaust pipe and an intake pipe of the engine and an exhaust gas recirculation control valve disposed in the exhaust gas recirculation passage for selectively closing and opening the exhaust gas recirculation passage, a method and an apparatus for diagnosing the exhaust gas recirculation system as to occurrence of an abnormality on the basis of a change in pressure or air flow rate within the intake pipe which is brought about by actuation of the exhaust gas recirculation control valve. By actuating the exhaust gas recirculation control valve in a diagnosis enabling operation state of the engine, it is determined whether the change in the pressure or air flow rate reaches a preset value within a predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 5282500
Abstract: A container filling apparatus makes it possible to discharge liquid stagnating within a filling valve. The filling valve is lowered towards a container being conveyed. Then a liquid passageway gating section is opened by pressing a bell-shaped member of the filling valve against the container, and liquid thus fills the container. The net amount of the contents to fill the container can be adjusted by vertically moving at least one of a filler liquid tank and a stopper member which limits the lower position of an intermediate spring bracket supporting a second elastic body for biasing a valve body upwardly with respect to a loading table on which the containers are supported. In addition, it is possible to open the liquid passageway gating section by lowering the filling valve with an external force. Therefore, liquid stagnating in the passageway of the filling valve can be discharged.

  • Patent number: 5129228
Abstract: An electronic engine control system includes a microprocessor, and a variety of sensors for sensing various conditions of the engine. An exhaust gas temperature sensor is mounted to an exhaust manifold to sense the temperature of an exhaust gas discharged from an engine cylinder. A catalytic converter is connected to the exhaust manifold and has a catalyst to clean the exhaust gas. A catalyst temperature sensor is mounted to the catalytic converter to sense the temperature of the catalyst. The microprocessor is operable to analyze information including the exhaust gas temperature and the catalyst temperature so as to determine whether combustion of an air-fuel mixture takes place during engine operation. If the mixture is not combusted, then the microprocessor signals injection valves to stop injection of fuel.
