  • Patent number: 5421719
Abstract: A self-heating type catalytic combustion apparatus and method for igniting catalyst mass effectively within a short period of time and under a clean state and for realizing pleasant heating and having a long life-span of catalyst mass.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 10, 1992
Date of Patent: June 6, 1995
    Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba
    Inventors: Kazuo Saito, Katsuyoshi Kumazawa
  • Patent number: 4666398
Abstract: Large numbers of vent holes are respectively formed in inner and outer flame cylinders defining an annular combustion chamber to supply air thereto. A total opening area of the vent holes formed in the outer flame cylinder is greater than that of the vent holes formed in the inner flame cylinder. As a result, the heat capacity of the outer flame cylinder is smaller than that of the inner flame cylinder. During combustion, the outer flame cylinder is heated to red-hot. A plurality of projections are formed on the outer wall surface of the inner flame cylinder to allow complete combustion of a fuel vapor.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 11, 1986
Date of Patent: May 19, 1987
    Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba
    Inventors: Katsuyoshi Kumazawa, Minoru Komori
  • Patent number: 4626197
Abstract: A wick temperature control unit is provided for controlling the temperature of a wick having the lower end portion dipped in a fuel tank for storing liquid fuel and the upper end portion inserted in a combustion chamber through a narrow path. The wick soaks up the liquid fuel by capillary action in the combustion chamber and evaporates the liquid fuel therein. The wick temperature control unit holds the temperature of the upper end portion of the wick in accordance with a given heating power state, thereby contributing to widen a heating power adjustment range.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: March 27, 1985
Date of Patent: December 2, 1986
    Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha Toshiba
Inventors: Katsuyoshi Kumazawa, Toshio Ohtsuki, Minoru Komori
  • Patent number: 4369027
Abstract: In a liquid fuel combustion apparatus having a horizontal combustion cylinder including a peripheral wall provided with perforations through which air is supplied in the form of jets. A fuel supplying system includes a fuel reservoir provided at the lowermost portion of the combustion cylinder. Vaporized fuel is mixed with the air jets and is subsequently burnt as it is carried horizontally.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 17, 1979
Date of Patent: January 18, 1983
Assignee: Tokyo Shibaura Denki Kabushiki Kaisha
Inventors: Toshihiko Saito, Katsuyoshi Kumazawa, Moriyoshi Sakamoto
  • Patent number: 4368032
Abstract: A liquid fuel combustion apparatus comprises a combustion cylinder, a fuel reservoir, a housing, a blower and an electrical ignition heater. The reservoir is disposed inside the cylinder to store a liquid fuel supplied from outside of the cylinder. The housing is disposed outside the cylinder to create a space therebetween and has an end wall opposite to an end wall of the cylinder. The blower is disposed outside, and in a spaced apart relation to, the housing and supply air to the space. The heater is supported by the end walls and ignite liquid fuel stored in the reservoir.
