Abstract: The present invention provides a silver halide photographic material and an image forming method for obtaining a monochrome image using a dye image even if it is treated with a color developer free of benzyl alcohol; a photographic property of the monochrome image is less deteriorated by a toxic gas such as formaldehyde and an increase in sensitization and fog with time is improved.

Abstract: The present invention provides a silver halide photographic material which can give a black-and-white picture by the use of dye images even when processed with a color developer substantially free from benzyl alcohol, and little suffers from the deterioration of photographic characteristics by harmful gas such as formaldehyde; and a process for forming images.Specifically, a silver halide photographic material comprising a base and at least one silver halide emulsion layer formed on the base, wherein the silver chloride content of the grainy silver halide constituting the silver halide emulsion layer is 95 mole % or above; the silver halide emulsion layer contains a yellow coupler, a magenta coupler and a cyan coupler; and the silver halide emulsion layer and/or other hydrophilic colloid layer contains a specific compound; and a process for forming images which comprises processing this silver halide photographic material with a color developer substantially free from benzyl alcohol.
