Portable electronic apparatus having optional components in a shielded recess for function expansion
Patent number: 5329422Abstract: A portable computer includes a base unit equipped with a display unit and a keyboard. The base unit has an optional component holding recess covered with an conductive layer for electro-magnetic shielding. An optional component unit is mounted in the holding recess and electrically connected to the base unit. The optional component unit is divided into a printed circuit board having a conductive circuit pattern and a board support for supporting the printed circuit board. The board support is made of an electrically insulating material, such as a synthetic resin material. The opening of the holding recess is closed by a conductive cover. In that closed state, the cover is placed in contact with the conductive layer and, together with the conductive layer, surrounds the optional component unit to achieve an electromagnetic shield.Type: GrantFiled: April 29, 1993Date of Patent: July 12, 1994Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventor: Katumaru Sasaki -

Patent number: 4846536Abstract: A hinge mechanism is disclosed which couples the flat-panel display of a portable apparatus to the housing of the apparatus. The flat-panel display can be folded upon the housing, and the apparatus looks like an attache case. The hinge mechanism has a torsion bar. The torsion bar is fastened, at one end, to the hinge mechanism. The other end portion of the torsion bar is flat and held by a holder such that the torsion bar is prevented from rotating around its axis, but can move in its axial direction. The axis of the hinge mechanism is defined by hollow cylindrical bosses inserted in circular holes cut in the hinge mechanism. The force which the torsion bar generates when it is twisted comes into equilibrium with the force urging the display to fall down toward the housing when the display reaches a position close to the housing. Hence, the panel display stops at this position.Type: GrantFiled: June 30, 1987Date of Patent: July 11, 1989Assignee: Kabushiki Kaisha ToshibaInventors: Yoshio Saitou, Katumaru Sasaki
