The replaceable seat seal assembly includes a plurality of inserts such as a top insert, bottom insert, and two side inserts. The inserts of the replaceable seat seal assembly are positioned within one or more pockets or recesses machined into the ram cavity and throughbore. The inserts can be readily replaced for convenient maintenance without the need for heat treatments, welding, and the like that is normally needed to repair a used ram cavity.

The wedge guide has a second angled surface that engages a second seat retainer on the other side of the gate that locks the second seat retainer in a second pocket. The wedge guide does not affect the movement of the seats that move axially between the gate and the respective seat retainers. Two wedge guides are preferably utilized on opposite non-sealing sides of the gate so that the gate slides between them.
