  • Patent number: 5007209
Abstract: An optical fiber connector polishing apparatus is disclosed which comprises a polishing element rotated at high speed, a chuck for supporting an optical fiber connector in such a manner that the optical fiber connector is rotatable in a reciprocation mode, a swing arm which holds the chuck to swing the chuck, in a horizontal plane, between a first fixed position and a second fixed position, a positioning unit for positioning the swing arm selectively at the first or second fixed position on the swing locus thereof, a swinging unit for swinging the swing arm in a horizontal plane continuously while the end portion of the optical fiber connector being polished with the polishing element, and a reference member for positioning the end portion of the optical fiber connector at a reference position. The polishing element and the reference member are arranged at the first and second fixed positions of the swing arm, respectively.

  • Patent number: 4999955
Abstract: An apparatus for conically machining an optical fiber connector is disclosed which comprises a grinding wheel rotated at high speed, an optical fiber connector having end portion whose machining end face is confronted with the grinding wheel, and having an optical fiber along the central axis thereof, a supporting member for supporting the optical fiber connector, which supporting member is swingable towards the grinding surface of said grinding wheel, a driver for swinging the supporting member to cause the optical fiber connector to abut against the grinding wheel, a moving unit for linearly moving the grinding wheel along the axis of rotation of the grinding wheel until the machining end face of the optical fiber connector is shifted from the grinding wheel, a reference surface juxtaposed with said grinding wheel, to set said optical fiber connector, and a reciprocating rotation unit for rotating the optical fiber connector in a reciprocation mode through at least 360.degree.

  • Patent number: 4914867
Abstract: Apparatus for processing an end face of an optical fiber connector includes a rotatable index shaft mounted on a frame. A plurality of rotatable chucks are mounted on the index shaft so as to hold optical fiber connectors, respectively. In accordance with the rotation of the index shaft, the chucks can be moved sequentially from one index position to another so as to grind and finish the optical fiber connector. A rotatable drive gear is disposed coaxially with the index shaft. A driven gear is fixedly mounted on each chuck. A pair of first and second intermediate gears are connected to the drive and driven gears, respectively. A clutch is interposed between the pair of intermediate gears and normally connecting them together to transmit the rotation of the drive gear to the driven gear to rotate each chuck.

  • Patent number: 4887345
Abstract: In a turret apparatus with an automatic tool changer a turret head is rotatably provided on a body. The turret head has two main shafts arranged with an interval of 180 degrees about a rotary shaft. The two main shafts being disposed with an intersectional angle of 90 degrees therebetween so as to horizontally direct in an indexing position of the turret head. A rotary center of said turret head is horizontally directed so as to have an intersectional angle of 45 degrees with respect to each of said two main shafts. One of the main shafts is in on the working side when the other main shaft is on the stand-by side. An automatic tool changing arm and a tool stocker are arranged on the horizontal side portion of the main shaft on the stand-by side.
