  • Patent number: 7147915
Abstract: Objects of the present invention are to provide a microcapsule which can effectively and easily achieve: the prevention and adjustment of the bleeding-out of the encapsulated liquid substance from the capsule shell; and the enhancement and adjustment of the physical strength of the microcapsule; and to further provide a sheet and an electrophoretic display, both of which involve using the above microcapsules. As means of achieving these objects, the microcapsule according to the present invention is a microcapsule comprising a shell and a liquid substance that is encapsulated in the shell, with the microcapsule being characterized in that the shell contains fine particles having particle diameters of not larger than 1 ?m. And the sheet according to the present invention comprises the microcapsules according to the present invention and a binder resin or comprises the microcapsules according to the present invention and a base material.

  • Patent number: 5973054
Abstract: A method which produces colored minute particles by suspending in an aqueous suspending medium a polymerizable monomer composition obtained by dispersing a coloring agent at least in a polymerizable monomer and polymerizing the resultant suspension is characterized in that the dispersion of the coloring agent in the polymerizable monomer is performed in the presence of a dispersing agent, the polymerizable monomer composition exhibits a viscosity of not more than 300 cP, and the suspension of the polymerizable monomer composition in the aqueous suspending medium exhibits a viscosity of not more than 100 cP. The dispersing agent is at least one resin selected from the group consisting of rosin derivatives, aromatic petroleum resins, pinene type resins, epoxy type resins, cumdrone resins, and styrene-acryl type resins.

  • Patent number: 5965676
Abstract: The present invention provides a polymerizable monomer composition particle and a resin particle, both of which display a narrow particle diameter distribution. A process for producing a resin particle comprises the steps of: passing two liquids through a static type in-line mixer having a liquid-dividing mechanism standing in a static state, wherein the two liquids are formable into two phases including one of the two liquids as a dispersing phase component and the other as a continuous phase component; then passing the two liquids through a high speed shearing type dispersing machine having a liquid-shearing mechanism which revolves at a high speed, thus dispersing a fine liquid drop of the dispersing phase component into the continuous phase component; and forming a resin particle from the resultant liquid drop.

  • Patent number: 5952429
Abstract: A carbon black graft polymer which excels in stability of dispersion in various media, coloring property, and imperviousness to light is obtained by mixing under heating a block- or graft-copolymer having a segment (A) containing a reactive group capable of reacting with a functional group on the surface of carbon black and a segment (B) different in skeletal structure from the segment (A) with carbon black. The carbon black graft polymer, by causing the graft chain thereof to incorporate therein an ethylenically unsaturated double bond and/or a carboxyl group, is enabled to manifest photosensitivity, developability with an alkali, and insulating property and acquire usefulness for a black photocurable resin composition such as, for example, the material for the formation of a black matrix particularly in a color filter.
