    Abstract: An optical transmission device and an optical communication system being capable of coping with various installation forms of a transponder in a unit of optical fiber transmission path are provided. The optical transmission device is installed inside a station building. First and second interface units are connected to first and second fiber transmission paths accommodated in a submarine optical fiber cable. A first fiber transmission path mediates an optical signal to be transmitted between the first interface unit and a first transponder. A second fiber transmission path mediates an optical signal to be transmitted between the second interface unit and a second transponder.

    Abstract: A communication device includes a control circuit and a main circuit. The control circuit is provided with a first storage circuit which can store, as first setting information, setting information that is information to be used when the communication device is activated. The main circuit is provided with a second storage circuit which can store setting information as second setting information. When valid first setting information can be acquired from the first storage circuit, the first setting information is selected as activation information to be used for activating the communication device, and the communication device is activated using the activation information. When valid first setting information cannot be acquired from the first storage circuit, the second setting information stored in the second storage circuit is selected as the activation information, and the communication device is activated using the activation information.

A control unit (4) identifies the dummy light corresponding to each optical signal, and controls the intensity of the identified dummy light based on the intensity of the optical signal corresponding to the identified dummy light and output from the optical signal adjustment unit (1). A multiplexing unit (3) outputs a wavelength-multiplexed optical signal (L) where the dummy light (D) and the optical signal (L10) output from the optical signal adjustment unit are combined.
