  • Patent number: 6346142
Abstract: An improved drying system is provided for removing moisture from gases such that a sufficiently dry gaseous sample is available for accurate analyses of the constituent components. The drying system includes a series of selectively permeable drying tubes or tube bundles located in a shell, where the moisture is removed from the gaseous sample via an ionic channel that extends through the tubing walls. The selectively permeable drying tubes allow water vapor to pass through the tube walls, but prevent the adsorption of most other gases. The sample gas is drawn through the tubes, and dried air is made to pass past the tubes in a counterflow direction. The first stage of the selectively permeable drying tubes is heated to raise the dew point of the gas stream, while the later stage is cooled in order to enhance the drying efficiency of the system. In this fashion, water vapor is removed from the gaseous sample stream in a more efficient manner than is presently available.

  • Patent number: 5860460
Abstract: A refueling pipe structure of a fuel tank includes a tank body, and an a refueling pipe which is connected to the tank body to extend upwardly therefrom. The refueling pipe is provided at its upper end with a refueling port into which a refueling nozzle can be inserted. The structure includes a flow direction limiting device mounted within the refueling pipe in the vicinity of the refueling port for guiding a fuel flow from a tip end of the refueling nozzle toward an inner surface of the refueling pipe, while limiting the fuel flow in a gyrate direction along the inner surface of the refueling pipe. Thus, the generation of evaporated fuel within the refueling pipe during refueling can be inhibited, and fuel can be smoothly introduced into the tank body.

  • Patent number: 5803054
Abstract: An evaporative fuel-processing system for an internal combustion engine for use in a vehicle. A passage extends between the fuel tank and the intake passage, for guiding evaporative fuel generated in the fuel tank, for processing, across which a canister is arranged. A first passage and a second passage are connected to the canister. A first valve is arranged across the first passage to allow air to flow into the canister through the first passage and inhibit air containing evaporative fuel from being discharged from the canister through the first passage. A second valve is arranged across the second passage to inhibit air from flowing into the canister through the second passage and allow air containing evaporative fuel to be discharged from the canister through the second passage. A filter is arranged in the first passage.

  • Patent number: 5702125
Abstract: A rear panel is provided in rear of a connecting wall rising upwardly from a rear end of a front floor panel, and a fuel tank supported within a subframe is disposed beneath a lower surface of the rear floor panel. A gas fume absorbing canister and a muffler are juxtaposed in a lateral direction of a vehicle body in a space which is surrounded by a rear surface of a middle cross-member secured to a rear surface of the connecting wall, a front surface of the fuel tank and the lower surface of the rear floor panel. Thus, it is possible to shorten a purge passage connected from the canister to an engine, to protect the canister from collision against a stepping stone or the like, to insure the volume of a trunk room and to enhance the purging efficiency of the canister utilizing a heat of the muffler by reasonably disposing the canister at a rear portion of the vehicle body.

  • Patent number: 5606954
Abstract: In an evaporative fuel processing device, an evaporative fuel passage communicating at one end to an upper space in a fuel tank is connected at the other end to a refueling line at a location corresponding to a negative pressure introducing hole provided in a lower portion of a tip end of a nozzle during refueling by a refueling nozzle which is constructed so that the refueling by the refueling nozzle is automatically stopped in response to a fuel liquid level reaching the negative pressure introducing hole during refueling. The draft resistance of an evaporative fuel passage interconnecting an inlet of the refueling line and a tank body is set larger than the draft resistance of an evaporative fuel passage interconnecting the tank body and a canister. Thus, the releasing of evaporative fuel from the fuel tank during refueling is effectively inhibited without use of a potentially unreliable seal.
