  • Patent number: 6880025
Abstract: A method and system for TIMEOUT message management in a serial bus bridged network includes (a) implementing a register table by a portal that contains a plurality of entries for storing respective remote timeout values from a portal's local bus to a particular destination bus in a same net, (b) intercepting a TIMEOUT response message addressed to the portal's local bus, (c) storing the remote timeout values for asynchronous transactions contained in the TIMEOUT response message intercepted in step (b), (d) forwarding the TIMEOUT response message intercepted in step (b) to the originally addressed node; (e) intercepting a TIMEOUT request message by the portal, (f) synthesizing timeout values by one of: retrieving or calculating, (g) sending the timeout values the sender of the TIMEOUT request.

  • Patent number: 6721364
Abstract: Communication equipment having an available bandwidth less than 100 Mbps may be regarded as IEEE1394 communication equipment in which buses (21, 31) are connected together via a bridge (40). The bridge (40) includes portals (40A, 40B), and the portals (40A, 40B) communicate with each other through infrared rays. RAMs (43A, 43B) include bandwidth available registers for writing a remaining amount of an available bandwidth, which may be used in an isochronous communication within the bridge (40). ROMs (44A, 44B) store an available bandwidth, which may be used in a isochronous communication in respective infrared communication units (45A, 45B), as an initial value (BWR). When the bridge (40) is initialized, the initial value (BWR) is written in the bandwidth available registers. Thus, even when an available bandwidth between the infrared communication units (45A, 45B) is less than 100 Mbps, the bridge (40) may be regarded and operated as communication equipment in which the available bandwidth is 100 Mbps.

  • Patent number: 6519671
Abstract: A bridge manager (bridge management equipment) is automatically determined. In a network, bridges 51 to 54 are configured by connecting portals 41 to 48 respectively connected to buses 11 to 15 and the different buses 11 to 15 are connected via the bridges 51 to 54. A value denoting the function of the bridge manager managing the portals 41 to 48 and equipment ID are stored in registers in each portal 41 to 48. One bridge manager is selected out of candidates 31 and 34 for a bridge manager based upon a value in the registers.

  • Patent number: 6408355
Abstract: The invention relates to A method for releasing the setting of isochronous transaction in a bus network, such as an IEEE-1394 bus network, in which plural buses are connected via a bridge, a bus network utilizing the method and a medium of an information provider, wherein an owner (a resource-possessing node), a talker (a sending node) and a listener (a receiving node) are connected to any of plural buses constituting an IEEE-1394 bus network. In a first step, a command to set synchronous communication is propagated from the owner to a portal of a bridge. A release from the setting of isochronous transaction is executed from the owner to a portal of a bridge. In a second step, a command to set communication between portals of bridges on the same bus is propagated. A release from the setting between portals of bridges on the same bus is executed. In a third step, a command to set communication is propagated between portals of the same bridge.

  • Patent number: 6389502
Abstract: A method of setting synchronous communication in a bus network, such as an IEEE-1394 bus network, in which plural buses are connected via abridge, a bus network utilizing the method and a medium of an information provider. An owner (a resource-possessing node), a talker (a sending node) and a listener (a receiving node) are connected to any of plural buses constituting an IEEE-1394 bus network. In a first step, a command to set synchronous communication is propagated from the owner to a portal of a bridge. In a second step, a command to set communication between portals of bridges on the same bus is propagated. In a third step, a command to set communication is propagated between portals of the same bridge. After the first step is executed, the second and third steps are suitably repeated. Therefore, a command for setting synchronous communication is sequentially propagated and synchronous communication is set for the bus and the bridge on a path from the talker to the listener.
